Your one year visa will expire on May 3rd 2019?

You cannot "extend" that visa, you can only apply for a new one.

My feeling is that on the one hand, you could apply online for the e-visa while you are out of the country in Nepal, after 3rd May, but it is not designed to cover that situation.

You will have to declare your last (existing) visa when you apply for the e-visa,
the problems can include that the Indian Immigration will see that you are not behaving like a regular tourist.

I also think that the e-visa is not valid to enter India by land crossing?

It might look/work better if you can fly out to somewhere and then apply for the e visa after a week or two, and then fly back?

Please note these are my amateur thoughts, I don't know anything about anything for sure!
