Hi Everyone,

I tried to look into applying for an OCI when my daughter was two, however it was so chaotic and complicated as I have an unsual set of circumstances.

Anyway, two years forward and here I am. I have sent of my daughters OCI application and am awaiting the long hold of any hope or light in the application.

I submitted on 24th May 2018 and application was acknowledged a day later on the 25th of May 2018. I received the birth certificate, other documents back on 26th May 2018.

Everything was going well, until I got a call on the 4th of June 2018 (3 days ago) and I heard a lady muffled in tone stating that she was calling from VFS global and then it went blank. The call was from a no caller ID so I canít call her back I have emailed in twice and am confused as havenít heard anything for 3 days. Please advise if you have been in a similar situation or what you think I should do...?

I donít even know if theyíre going to just ignore my daughters application and put us at the bottom of the pile now

Typos: Sorry my daughter was born. She is currently 2 years old.

It took two years as I had to obtain a special court document and order in relation to proving I have full custody of my daughter.

I would go and visit VFS if they are not too far. They probably need some more documentation.

Is there any changes to the online status on your application?

How did you submit the application?
You mentioned that you received the documents back on may 26th. Is it possible to go back and ask them?

Daughters OCI - Missed the call! ☹️

1... Is there no general number for VFS? It almost certainly doesn't matter that you talk to the same person. You have some reference number?

2... Did you not fill in application online? You can make status enquiry through same site.

3 (optimistic!)... A whole year later! I'd hope that the call was to tell you to go and collect it! Sorry, I am sometimes number-blind. <Beats self with hammer: 2018 is this year1>

Hi, Iím not sure if they would be able to help that much as I believe the call may have come from India. The current status states that it is under process. By documentation I donít mean the application, I meant the original certificates.

As it was only recently submitted, I'm guessing that they want something else, so it is probably quite important that you do contact them.

For my spouse-PIO-conversion, I was asked for one more document, but the request came by email, and I was asked to reply by email. But, i. I'm a non-Indian spouse, and ii. I'm in India, so dealing direct with FRRO.

I doubt it. VFS Global, as a representative of the Indian Government would not exist in India (VFS is here, doing stuff for other countries, eg visas and passports).

I don't know the exact chain, but I think that VFS will hand over your papers to the Indian embassy/consulate/whatever, who may do their check, and then will pass the application to MEA in Delhi, who take the decisions and issue the card. All VFS do is move papers at your end.

From a quick look at your previous-posts list, stuff certainly rings a bell, yes. I'll remind myself properly by looking at the posts later, but have to go out now. Nice to see you again!

Hello Natasha. I looked back at your previous thread and woke up the brain cells. Nice to hear from you again, and I hope you and your daughter are doing well.

I can't help with contacting VFS in UK. My personal experience of VFS is as representatives of UK: my wife applied for UK visas there, and I got my UK passport renewed through them. I have never dealt with them in UK, as the last time I had to apply for a visa there, we still went to the London High Commission.

I would hope they have a general enquiry number. Maybe they don't, to prevent thousands of
tourist-visa applicants calling every half hour and demanding updates! But I would hope that they do for people in your situation.

For what it is worth, which is probably not much, I do now have experience of receiving my OCI-in-lieu-of-PIO. It happened amazingly fast. In fact, before I was even expecting an on-line status to be available! The lady said, yes, it takes longer to get a new one. She didn't specify how long. But my experience suggests that there is an efficient department, in Delhi, working on OCIs.

Thank you for all your help and advice. I had to submit a document which was missing (did this on Friday) and received this email today:

Thank you for your email.

Our tracking system indicates that your application has been resubmitted and is currently under process. If any additional documents are required, then our officials from the center will contact and advise you accordingly.

Do write us back if any further assistance is needed.

Hopefully fingers crossed it all is a success! I wish I could apply for a PIO for her as she does meet the requirements but I believe this is non existent now...

How much do you think they check the documents?

The documents I have provided have been returned to me (originals) and I donít believe this is sufficient time to check this thoroughly. From my perspective, itís just a tick boxing exercise to get the ę*so called documents*Ľ in and make sure it says all the right things.

Do you think they just read them or they verify these?

I would hope that they verify them and take the time to make sure everything is right, however, it doesnít seem this way to me. From reading other peopleís post, they seem to have a backlog and sorting in Delhi. How can Delhi verify English docs? I just want to know how things work as I donít understand the justification of 3 months if they return the docs back so quickly to me?
