I'm a US citizen, and my husband is Indian. I currently hold a PIO card.

We'll be having a baby at the end of this month, and I know the process for getting the US citizenship registration, and the passport, but I am curious if there is an immediate need to leave the country afterwards. I've heard conflicting reports about having ot possibly pay for every single day that the baby is in the country without a visa. I was under the impression that once I had the US passport and was ready to leave the country, that I would need to get an exit permit, but that would be it. I'm curious if anyone has any insight or has dealt with this before. It would seem absurd for them to require a newborn infant to leave the country and get a visa somewhere.

Any ideas??

Our situation is slightly different. My husband and I are both foreigners. For our daughter born in India we just got a Dutch passport, and then an exit permit from the FRRO. I would it would be no different for you, but you never know...
