Hi,

I had renewed my passport in 2012 in Pune under Tatkal. I had been called to the police station then for post-verification and was told it was done after giving needed documentation and fees.

I've travelled on the passport a couple of times and have been living abroad for 3 years now.

Strangely, the personal references I'd given on the application are now getting phone calls from the police for passport verification - almost 4 years later!

I've moved from the address mentioned in passport application in 2013. I did not receive any follow up earlier on this from the police etc.

Does anyone have an idea if the police can now send an adverse report 4 years after issuance, and what impact could it have on my current passport?

Thanks!

Yes, the police may send an adverse report even at this point.

You should visit the police station and clarify your position and discuss the matter with them.

Thanks Prakaant. However, I'm not in India now for the last 3 years and will not be visiting India/Pune anytime soon now.

Have you come across any such cases of verification after a few years?
Its really surprising they'd suddenly remember to perform verification after 4 years and expect all the details to be still valid. Even one of the two references I'd provided then have since migrated to the US

Generally such verification doesn't happen unless there is some complaint or new issue crops up.

But no need to panic or getting upset.

You may ask any of your relatives (preferably parents or sibling) to visit police station and clarify/explain your position. They may ask few queries regarding your past, and present and for new references.

Later you may send an explanation in this respect.
