A letter from a reputed MNC or Indian company is accepted in a lot of cases. However it need to be supported by something else as well. A letter from the PG owner with an address proof in his/her name should be acceptable.

Else, because you still have about 10 months for the passport, acquire address proofs in your name by getting a postpaid mobile connection or having thee address of your bank account changed.

Bank statements with address mentioned on the statement and stamped is accepted as alternative proof.

I think the RPO accepts only BSNL landline bills as proof of address, and not from any other providers. No pre-paid is accepted.

It is better to apply for a voter id card,as that seems to be the one that requires minimal documentation. It comes with a valid from date, so you can use that as address proof. Get a bank account opened. Then if you can get a gas bill, that should be fine.

MNC letters, only some reputed ones are accepted, not all. Not sure if there is a name list somewhere.

Delay your renewal application a little, so you can get one clear year in your present place. otherwise, you will have to list other addresses you stayed in (without documentary evidence), but the police check will have to be done in multiple places.

In theory the MNC letter alone is acceptable but not sure if it works like that in practice as well. However, it certainly can be used in conjunction with another proof. It would be good if the letter says that you reside at the given residence since____.

You need to show that you're living at the given residence for at least the past 1 year. So if you can get other proof (like a gas connection) or you can change address on Voter card/aadhar and reissue your passport in Aug 2014 or so it would be fine. Provided you don't need to travel that time.

I'm pretty sure that Airtel bill is accepted.

That is the problem when they just say "Phone bill", and not say what they accept. If it keeps changing over time, we get different answers depending on the time the question is asked.

Would you be able to comment more on Airtel bill, Ansh_Jain_97? Would that have to be a postpaid landline? or postpaid mobile? or another version?

From what I had heard, they have now started to accept POST PAID bills of all phone companies. It should be a year since I heard this.

The passport site says post paid mobile as well as landline bill is acceptable. Heard that bills from all telecom cos are acceptable but some PSKs accept the bills only if they are stamped/signed by an Airtel office.

Again, the same applies for bank statements. Bank statements of all- PSBs and otherwise- are accepted.
