There seems to be some confusion somewhere...

Did you mean to say, that the authorities issued a replacement passport without your tendering of old passport...

anyway, you can't use old passport...

Hi Prakaant,

Thanks for your time and for replying me.

My question specifically is .... as i have been re issued another passport which is valid from 2014-2024
My old passport which has family name mistake is also valid from 2014-2024.
As i understand from your reply that i cannot use the old passport. AGREED.
But do i have to specifically go to passport office and get my old passport CANCELLED or not required.....?
while re-issuing the another passport , no body asked me about my first passport which has family name mistake or informed me to get CANCELLED.

My concern is if i dont CANCEL the first passport and when applying for VISA , i will be providing 2 passports with almost same Validity and another Country Embassy might not understand why i am having 2 passports unless they ask me in specific.

Regards,
KB

That is very strange, just does not happen. They do see the old passport and put a cancelled stamp on that, and return it back to you.

If this has happened, then it does not matter as long as you don't try to use the passport. In government records, your old passport will be shown as cancelled as you have to provide the old passport details in the application. You can very well put a cancelled stamp on that yourself
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

For your visa use the latest passport which has the correct name. The earlier one might have been cancelled by the government in their records.

Jitu and aarosh are correct. The passport gets automatically cancelled as soon as a new one is issued.

A passport issued with latter date would be valid document. And if you use older passport it will be considered as crime...

You should visit Passport Office and get it cancelled stamp.

For Visa purpose you should use latter issued passport.

the earlier one might be CANCELLED as per the records but they did not put any stamp on the Passport.

While submitting for VISA we need to provide all the orginal information and we have to submit any previous passports also ... right

Can i still go ahead and submit the both the passports even though the first passport has not been CANCELLED, i mean no stamp printed on the passport.

It seems you are not reading complete responses here...

You will have to submit only one passport which has been later issued... If you submit first passport, visa will not be stamped on it ...

Previous passports in this case means passport which have elapsed. Since this is your first passport you have no previous passport isn't it?
