Hello Folks

I need a advice regarding renewing my indian passport from abroad.seems like the guy from indian embassy who is handling my case giving me some roller coaster ride. this is my my fourth round now and every time he is asking me some new documents that is even not necessary according to my case. and never gives me full list of documets what i need for my file (rishvat khori ka bazar bahar bhi garam hain)
so can someone please suggest me what documents exactly i need? one more question is this important to have notary stamp on marriage certificate that are already apostille with stamp?

I do not remember putting in my spouse name anywhere when I renewed mine in London.

If you are having issues, you should tweet to Chief Passport Officer and include @MEAQuery. I have been told, tweeting works, by persons in this region of the world, who have used this method.

Due to spat of ugly incidents involving human-trafficking, and fake refugee petitions, many desis from pindlandia are being given extra scrutiny.

If you are in the country XYZ (which ever country), the Indian Mission wants to know beyond a reasonable doubt that you are legit.

So for example, if your presence in Caribbean-paradise-Island is by virtue of marriage, then they might ask for marriage certificate. If the marriage certificate is from Las Vegas or, an English offshore haven, then they'll require appropriate authentication.

Since we do not know your actual situation, we can only guess.

It is necessary to get spouse's name endorsed in Indian passport; and for the same marriage certificate is a necessary document.

A self-attested copy of marriage certificate issued by Registrar of Marriage
OR
A joint affidavit from husband and wife along with a joint photograph, (Specimen at Annexure 'D') When joint affidavit is not possible the affidavit should indicate the reason for it. The change in the first name amounts to a substantial name change and the regular procedure for name change should apply.
OR
Affidavit as per Annexure K (for applicants who are unable to provide the prescribed marriage certificate or joint affidavit due to marital discord or separation) may be submitted.

Hey is it possible to get the Passport Renewed from abroad itself? Or will one have to travel to India for that? Also in that case will the VISAs & work permits prevail?

You can renew abroad through the Indian Embassy/High Commission or its authorised outsourced agents. Visas and Work Permits do not need to be transferred to the new passport, but you have to carry your old passport containing those and present it with the new one.
