Hello,

My son is an Indian national. I need to get an apostille (in Chennai) for my son's birth certificate to submit at the Italian Embassy. The birth certificate was issued in 1998, at the town in Tamil Nadu where he was born.

I read on an authentic Internet site that according to the Italian Law, certificates have validity of 6 months from their date of issuance.

Does that mean I need to get a fresh one? If yes, does the Indian govt issue fresh ones, and where should I get this done?

Also, my Indian govt-issued marriage certificate has my full name (including my surname), whereas my son's birth certificate has only my first name (no surname).

Would this discrepancy pose a problem when I submit both my marriage certificate and my son's birth certificate at the Italian Embassy for his citizenship change?

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

we got our marriage certificate apostille done via the VFS in delhi. Not sure about the validity period of the apostille as this was for use in the UK.

I also do not know if the name would be an issue.

You should get a list of required documents from Italian Embassy in New Delhi, before you go about spending monies on validation of documents.

Hello,

Apostille Stamp for Marriage Certificate:

Here is an updation on mode of payment for Apostille Stamp for personal certificates like marriage certificates and birth certificates (based on my experience at MEA Branch Secretariat at Chennai on 28 August 2018).

Postal order or DD for 50 rupees (charge for Apostille stamping for each certificate), as mentioned on the MEA website, is no more accepted. Do not waste your time or money getting a DD for the same.

They accept only online payment now. Go to the website https://bharatkosh.gov.in/MinistryInfo.aspx (Non-Tax Receipt Portal), pay online, get a printout of the receipt from a nearby xerox shop.

You need to submit this printout along with your original marriage certificate (with the Red Seal on it from the Under Secretary at Foreigner's Dept, Chennai Secretariat, at Fort St. George), a photocopy of the marriage certificate with the Red Seal on it, and a photocopy of your passport.

The following sites will help to a large extent with regard to info, but the payment info is not updated in either of them.
https://www.mea.gov.in/apostille.htm (this site claims to have been updated in June 2018, but nothing about the change in mode of payment!)
https://www.mea.gov.in/attestation-a...le-matters.htm (also not updated)

Please take the payment receipt printout the previous day itself to avoid delays. The site hangs very often, so you will have to try repeatedly.

Time of submission of the docs is 10 am to 1 pm. You can collect the Apostilled doc(s) the same day, between 4.30 and 5.30 pm, provided you have all the required docs in order.

Good luck! You will really need that!
