Lifetime Airtel prepaid sim

Is there such a thing? A friend bought a prepaid Airtel sim last year but says it has expired. Can this be reconnected? A lifetime would be an answer for a frequent traveller

Not sure, but I think a minimum usage (400 every six months or a year? Remember hearing such a figure) is required for lifetime.

I once asked a vendor which lifetime he was talking about - mine, or Airtel's?

This is computer generated drivel. No signature is required.

I have been looking into this myself, with the Airtel Ka Lifetime SIM (this link valid for Delhi circle only) you have to recharge the balance with Rs 200 in every 180 running days. If that does not happen, the SIM is inactivated, even though it's a "lifetime" SIM.

What I can't find out is whether the balance could be recharged online from another country.

Edited to correct the text highlighted in blue and add Delhi link.

You'll find that's actually covered in the terms; that it may end if the company closes or ceases to provide the service.

Be very wary of 'lifetime' services: I went for it once, and found my calls and, particularly, SMS messages, cost a lot more.

For Airtel, "lifetime" means until their circle's licence period expires. Those dates are available on Airtel's terms and conditions, but as a guide they run between November 2014 in Delhi, until December 2025 for Punjab.

Not that the service will definitely end at that time, but it makes sense that contractually they cannot offer a continuing service that they have no way of ensuring.

Right now, the Airtel Prepaid Lifetime rates include:

Rs 1 a minute for all local calls (mobile or landline) and text (SMS) messages
Rs 1.5 a minute for all STD calls (mobile or landline) and text (SMS) messages
Rs 5 for an international text message
Rs 6.4 a minute for Canada, and Europe fixed lines
Rs 9.2 a minute all other foreign calls inc mobile
Rs 40 a minute for places you'd never phone like the Cook Islands

To me, as someone whose UK phone would cost Rs. 150 a minute [whoa] to phone home, those prepay charges seem very low but I am interested to know how they look to those in the know?

Edited to add: STD rates

I have an Airtel card bought last August - this has expired as it had a 60 day or something validity. Can this be reactivated or is the number "lost" now?

Is it possible to purchase an Airtel card with one year validity? If so, how much might it cost? Thank you!
