Hello everyone,

I have an unlocked iPhone. I am going to spend a few weeks in the North of India so I want to buy a prepaid SIM card to be able to make international calls and surf the web (with EDGE).

I have read a bit on this forum so I have decided to buy an AIRTEL pre-paid SIM card and get GPRS/EDGE activated on it.

I am wondering a few things:

1) Is it possible to buy an AIRTEL prepaid SIM card in MUMBAI airport?

2) Do I still need a PROOF OF ADDRESS in INDIA to buy a SIM card? If yes, I guess it is going to be a huge problem

3) Is Airtel a good choice for a trip in the north of india and to have EDGE connection?

Thanks a lot!

I got a vdafone one in Pushkar last March, you need a photo, passport and some proof of address where you reside... Outside of India...

Worked out all OK no problem. At the airport, I don't think so..

Possible if you are landing at Deldi/Mumbai airports. Not open 24 hours though.

3. Airtel has the biggest GSM subscribers pan-India, Edge connection wouldn't be a problem anywhere in India (except J&K), however I use iPhone 4 (U) with Airtel Sim card and been using it for a loong time, and I've found Edge speeds to be just 'workable', 'nothing great' you'd have to wait a few moments before a Google search return results

In the End its just memories what we end up with, and right now you have the choice to make it Good, Bad or a Thrill.
