Side note about concerns about getting "nicked" is they that make travel pants that are pick pocket resistant..

Backup backup backup. Never trust a hard drive or USB stick or a SD Card. Use Cloud backup. Google Photo has just announced unlimited backup space last week, albeit at a lower resolution. Then there are Microsoft, Box, Dropbox, Camera360 etc. clouds But do backup. Backup. Backup. (Did I mention backup?)

Think ! So elementary ? If you'll cannot make a connection between these acronyms and the theme of this thead, you all are going to be taken by those three and four letter agencies

Flickr @ 1TB free space, with no restrictions on size, and not to mention deep links with IOS & iphoto App

True. Cloud backup is ideal. Fing says it doesn't take long, and if that's the case then great.

As a friend on another forum explained to me when I was getting all this set up last year,
2G = you might as well walk to the internet cafe.
And it's true. In fact, it's almost as bad as writing a letter and waiting for the reply. Are poste restante addresses in the next town covered in IP protocol? nycank would know.

3G is bearable; 4G (I'm a recent convert) is actually good. Wifi, however, should be best, and almost always cheapest, especially where free . ...But there are still imponderables between you and your deliverables, leading to uncertain indefinables in the equation.

I use 2G on my 4G capable phone for email refresh and surfing IM. I have played WWTPT2 and uploaded a few clues using a 2G connection while on the move (in a car). 2G still has the widest coverage as far as I know.

For our first trip to India in 2011 we didn't even take a mobile phone. For the next 3 we took an old phone and got an Airtel SIM with Rs 300 credit for calls and texts that easily lasted for the 5 or 6 weeks we were in India. We had a netbook and later a tablet that we used online when we could get wifi.

This year I took a relatively cheap smartphone with 3G capability and got a SIM including data for Rs 700. It made life so much easier, particularly as we could use the phone as a wifi hotspot for the tablet. The only place that was really hopeless for a signal was Hampi. We needed one Rs500 top up to see us through.

Assuming you agree that if a browser can see it, it can save it locally; Flickr has restrictions as to who can and cannot access the original.

It's free, try it
