Hello everybody!

This is my first post here - thank you for this great forum. I have been searching it extensively in planning my upcoming trip to India.

I have a question about the amount of time needed to transfer in Bangalore Airport (BLR). My flight out of india is SQ503, departing at 2310 on 24th Jan 2010. I will be in Kerala, so I am thinking of taking (Kingfisher) IT 4736 Trivandrum (TRV) to BLR, arriving at BLR at 2115.

My question is this: Will I be cutting it too close? Do I risk missing my connecting flight?

I expect that I will need to collect all my baggage from domestic arrivals, and then make my way to check in at international departures. Is there usually much delay in BLR airport?

The next earlier flight is Jet Airways 9W2746, arriving BLR at 1810, leaving me 5 hours to kill between flights, which seems like a waste of time.

Thanks for your time and any advice you may have.

Domestic and International air terminal Bangalore.

Can't you check your luggage all the way through from Kerala to wherever you are going? I say this as it took us over an hour to retrieve our luggage the other week hence my suggestion of booking your luggage through. Then you will simply be transitting at Bangalore airport and going from one gate to another. It is not a very big terminal so getting from gate to gate shouldn't take long. However as I'm sure you are aware planes can be delayed etc so I'd be inclined to allow plenty of time rather than cut it fine.
On second thoughts maybe you can't book luggage through from Kerala to your end destination so disregard my suggestion if so!!!

Thanks for your reply - In part I wanted to know how efficient BLR airport typically is with luggage.

As for booking the luggage through, the domestic section would be on Kingfisher, the international section on Singapore Airlines (to Singapore). I suppose I should find out if this is possible with flights on different airlines. I could try calling Kingfisher I guess. Would you have any advice in this regard? Thanks again!

Take the earlier flight. International flights require reporting before 3 hours.......unless you are flying business class or you are a gold member in the airline's frequent flyer program.

If the scheduled arrival time is 2115, and if all is well, you will be out by 2145 or so. However, even if there is a small delay, you are likely to get into anxiety / difficulties.

Bangalore is a modern/new airport. You quickly walk from one terminal to the other. Efficiency is, or is not, on the day.

Thanks for the information, I did not know that the requirement was 3 hours in India. I'm used to showing up 2 hours before a flight (and usually having alot of time to kill!).

Taking everything into account, we have decided to play it safe an take an earlier flight. Thanks for your input everyone!

Thanks, but I'm only resident in Singapore, so no such luck! Passport sequestered for 10 days and SGD109 for a tourist visa. The processing time is exactly 5 working days, but I sent mine in on Dec 24, where 5 working days thereafter is Jan 4!
