So...i just ran into the Swaminarayan Akshardham via wikitravel, and it looks amazing. I'd really like to go see it, but was wondering if anyone has ever been...more specifically if anyone has visited from paharganj. I'd like to know travel times to get to the temple, how long it takes to view the main monument minus the shows and such (it suggests an hour and a half on the website), and how far it is from the airport.

well, maybe i'll just come back to delhi a day early before we leave. this place looks jaw dropping! Too bad no cameras are allowed (thank goodness for the website).

Akshardham is definitely worth a visit. It is about 20-30 minutes Autorickshaw /Taxi ride from Pharganj. From Airport, its about 45 mins -1 hour (depending on the time of the day and traffic conditions). One and a half hours is a good estimate for a relaxed tour of the complex. The food stall here is also pretty popular for vegetarian North indian and south indian stuff.
The shows are also nice- but take about 2 and half hours all told.

Anyone been here recently and can write about it? Would it be too hot to visit in August? It seems a lot of the gardens would be nice to walk around in. How bout the evening fountain/light show? I would like to visit in August when we are in Delhi.
Thank You

Last August when we were there it was raining heavily. So during August it's not hot but expect rains. The evening light show is very popular (did not stay for the same as we had Manali bus to catch)& think it would be worth watching.

All other shows are also worth watching including the boat ride. Only the shows would take approx. 2 - 2.1/2 hrs time (if it's a weekday - on weekends or bank holidays expect more time). Apart from this you need to spare time to go around the temple & light show in the evening. It's more like spending half a day at Akshardham. Reach by afternoon, see the shows, walk around the temple, have snacks & at last see the light show.

Ronak.

the boat ride and movie show are air conditioned...that may help with the heat
