Hello,

We are a group of 10 travelling from Manali to Mumbai, via Delhi. We'll be reaching Delhi on 24th May, sometime near 10am. Our train to Mumbai is from New Delhi Station at 11pm.

We've around 8-9 hours to kill. The general reccommendation however is to get a hotel room and stay put; something that somehow seems very retarded.

I'm yet to book my bus tickets from Manali (cant leave before 23rd May), so there's a bit of flexibility too.

Any suggestions???

Regards,
Kapil

Hi there,
You can take a tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Its a 45 mins to 1hr tour. It can be booked online. Please visit the site www.presidentofindia.gov.in. There is a link for the tour booking on the page. You can go through the instructions for the details.
Also, there are memorials you can visit if you have not visited earlier - Gandhi Smriti (Birla house - the place of the last prayer), Indira Gandhi memorial, Teen Murti Bhavan (Jawaharlal Nehru's residence). All these places are not very far from New Delhi Station where you have to reach back. All the monuments generally close at 5:00pm.
Akshardham will be very far hence not suggested.
Hope this helps.

@dan bushell -- where? ... do you know one? ... sounds fun!

@vaibhav -- ...

One of my memories of Delhi - April, 15 years ago - is waiting for the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdahni and downing two ice-cold Bisleri bottles in 30 mins. I was just a kid then and didnt say a thing ... not sure if thats possible now

@anjali -- I've been reading vaibhav's post. RB sounds good ... will check on the place accesibility.

Is the Akshardham temple accessible by the metro? And what are the timings there? I've seen few evening pictures, so really hopeful there ...

There's a direct metro from rajeev chowk station to Akshardham. Check dmrc site. There's one every 10 minutes or so, but what'd you do with your luggage? Put it in the cloak room maybe first and then take the metro.

Yes Akshardham is on the blue line..you will have to take a metro from Rajiv Chowk (Connaught Place) metro station. Should take you 4--45 mins. It is open till 6:30pm. For details check delhitourism.gov.in. The exhibition is definitely good. But does take a long time...their canteen also serves good veg food..
Oh yes..it will be very hot in May..make sure you wear sunglasses and caps..and keep yourself hydrated..else the swimming pool wala idea is great !!

I like the idea of a swimming pool. If you were not a domestic tourist, and were a first-timer, I would suggest a 400 Rs dive in Old Delhi to rest for a few hours and explore that area during the day

@sam78a -- let it out, if not me, chances are someone else might find it feasible

I've been to Delhi twice, both times as a stopover for a connection to Manali. Not seen much yet!
