Left luggage or cloak room in Nizamuddin railway station

I need some help regarding left luggage or cloak room in Nizamuddin railway station

1. Is there any left luggage room in Nizamuddin railway station or near by area ?
2. What are the requirements to keep the luggage in the left luggage room ?
3. How long can I keep the luggages in left luggage room.
4. Any special permission required ?

I'm travelling from US to delhi. I'm planning to take a trip from delhi to rishikesh through train and return back in train after spending 4 days there. I don't want to take all my luggages from delhi to rishikesh. Could someone recommend what are the options there for me?

1. There is a left luggage facility at Hzt. Nizamuddin station on platform no. 1. Ask for Cloak Room.

2. You need a train ticket (inward or outward) to book your luggage. And it's openings should be pad locked. These are the only requirements.

3. You can keep it for 4 days. No issues.
I did not fully understand the dread term "Terminal Illness" until I saw Terminal 1 D of Delhi Airport.

Hi,

I along with my wife will be reaching H.Nizamuddin Station at around 10AM. We have to catch a train from Old Delhi station at around 3:30PM. So, we have got around 4 hrs of spare time with me. We aim to visit H.Nizamuddin Dargah and Humayun's Tomb in that time.

Questions:
1) Will I be allowed to keep our luggage at H.Nizamuddin Station cloak room or will I have to keep it at Old Delhi station only because our next train is going to start from old Delhi.

2) What is the best way to visit H.Nizamuddin Dargah and Humayun Tomb from H.Nizamuddin station? (considering that we are allowed to keep our baggage at H.Nizamuddin Station) Can we take a prepaid auto for that or is it walkable distance?

2. Considering that we have to keep our baggage at old Delhi station, what all nearby places can we cover up in that 4hrs period? (Jama Masjid, Red fort etc?). And how do we do that (transportation).

Please help.

Thanks

Yes, you would be permitted to keep luggage in cloakroom at H. Nizamuddin Station.

In stead of walking, you may take auto rickshaw from H. Nizamuddin Station. If any auto rickshaw agrees to go through pre-paid booth, it would be fine, but I doubt as you would have waiting period also at both the places!

You may talk to the driver for a total package including drop at Old Delhi Station once your tour is over!

Thanks for your valuable inputs Prakaant. I guess package would be the best! Aprox. how much should the package cost any ideas on that?

No idea, as have never tried it! :(

But, it should not be less than Rs 200/-, I believe!

Reserving an Auto for 4 hrs within 200 - might be tough... Perhaps 300-400 might be closer to what you'll shell out. A benchmark of 10 Rs/km & 50-100 Rs/hr for waiting besides tips might be a more reasonable figure to negotiate.

Considering that you would need to go to Old Delhi Rly Stn, put your luggage in cloak room (usually there is only one & it can get crowded some times), come out & take an auto-tour, come back & retrieve the luggage, I think the hassle is too much. Perhaps it might be a better idea to book a cab to pick you up from HZM, keep the luggage in the trunk while you cover these places & finally drop you at DLI. If you use something like MERU, it might be quite reliable, though a bit more expensive...

It sounds more practical! Mine was a wild estimation! [Blush]

I was not allowed to keep the luggage at H. Nizamuddin Station. One can only keep luggage if you are going to board the train from that station and have a valid ticket. As my train was from old Delhi, I was not allowed to keep the luggage at H. Nizamuddin.

if i understood correctly, your earlier train was ending at H.Nzm. i thought you should be able to use the cloak room after getting off the train (to go freshen up & find accommodation etc.) - did you tell them you got off at that station & had the ticket to prove it?

EDIT:
just in case the 'rules' cover origin station, but not destination station, this loophole (see 825 b) might be useful:
When a passenger is detected at the destination station with unbooked or partially booked luggage weighing more than the free allowance and he refuses or is unable to pay the due freight charges on demand the entire luggage should be detained and transferred to the cloak-room. A Railway receipt showing the charges as from and to the stations between which the passenger's ticket is available will be handed over to the passenger who will be advised to take delivery after payment of all charges due including cloak-room charges. A special report should be sent to the destination by the ticket checking staff detecting the unbooked luggage.

I told him that my connecting train is from Old Delhi and asked him whether I could keep the luggage at H.Nizamuddin. He said that I should be boarding the train from H.Nizamuddin, only then I can keep the luggage there. So I went to old delhi and kept the luggage there instead.

I did not mention as such that I just got off from the train.

Thanks
