I will be visiting Delhi for the first time to attend my Visa interview. I want to stay in a hotel nearby Chanakyapuri.

I can afford a max of Rs.2500 for room/day. Could someone tell me where I can stay near the US embassy at Chanakyapuri. I can afford to travel by car if the hotel is around 5 to 6 kms from the embassy. Also it should be somewhat near to the Domestic airport.

It will be helpful if someone could give me important places that I can visit in half a day

Thanks a lot...

The YHA International is very close to the US embassy, but it is basic and clean and very cheap!! there are hotels out on Sardar Patel Marg - Maurya Sheraton may have rooms within that budget, also a Diplomat Hotel. Maybe google and see if there are websites for them.
Delhiites might come up with more suggestions for you.
Will you have half a day to visit - if you do, Humayun's Tomb is nice, and of course Red Fort, Jama Masjid too. Lodi Gardens if you want really quiet place to wander about.
Every cloud has a silver lining!

I seriously doubt if you would find any Hotels within that range in Chanakyapuri.. Its the diplomatic area of New Delhi and mostly houses 4 or 5 star hotels.

I think you would be better off staying at CP/Pahar Ganj and then travelling to US Embassy in Chanakya Puri for your interview. Am assuming your interview will be in the morning so if you leave early it should not take you more than 45 minutes to get there. You can either take a cab/auto from Paharganj. Auto's will be cheaper, Cab will be more comfortable.

Half day sightseeing? Hmmm You can go to India Gate, Humayun's Tomb, Dilli Haat, Red Fort, Connaught Place. All of these places are in close proximity to each other and you can see most of them if not all in half a day.

Cheers

Oh well....

Sheraton's usual prices are about 14k/Night and Diplomat is about 10k/Night.....

Sheraton - http://www.itcwelcomgroup.in/

Diplomat - http://www.thehoteldiplomat.com/

As far as YHA is concerned, Here you go:

http://www.hihostels.com/dba/list.php?lang=E

YHA is a Hostel and not really a Hotel but yes it will definitely fit in your budget, Its about 400 bucks a night. You can book online. These are not private rooms. Its an air-conditioned Dormitory.

For 750 rupees a night I got a single room with bathroom, and it was private - it was all clean and fine. They do have rooms which are not Dormitory type - the single room has 2 beds in it.
It is almost in walking distance of the US embassy but you could take an auto for 20 rupees.

What a waste of money!

Innova is comfortable I agree, but I pay less than Rs 400/- for Easycabs (mostly Maruti Esteem and Maruti Versa)from Delhi airport to Gurgaon DLF Phase IV.

The second half of what you spent is reasonable I guess.....by the way, which hotel did you stay ?

Cheers!

Just checked it from my mails..The hotel name is "Sky View Guest House" and it was pretty neat I would say. It was located in a residential area and it was very calm. The charge of 1500/day included the breakfast also.

A very ideal place for someone wanting to be near the airport as well as US Embassy, as well as High Commissions of Canada and UK is the Hotel Ashoka Palace. Address:

F-2,Anand Niketan,Opposite Rao Tularam College
Chanakya Puri, Delhi, 110021. Phone:
011 24110308 Its on the road to Delhi airport from Chanakyapuri, near Vasant Enclave and Vasant Vihar.

IMHO luvlee_ghg was royally ripped off by the guest house in Gurgaon. Even staying in downtown Delhi, like CP or Paharganj would be a better option to take care of Visa work in the embassies.

More options for stay near Chanakyapuri( for those who need the same info):
There are several budget guest houses in Safdarjang Enclave, an area which is also close to the diplomatic enclave. It is the area opposite the hotel Hyatt Regency, off Africa Avenue, just before R K Puram.

I think looking at your posts Indizen, my original suggestion of YHA is the best of the lot as far as value for low money goes! OP would have more than half the money she spent for taxis and accommodation in her pocket if she had stayed there. The latest re rates is that a single room with attached bathroom is now 1000 rupees per night. Still good for Delhi and that area though.
My word, I had no idea the Maurya was that expensive! Thanks for that info.

She could have even walked for a bit of exercise to the US embassy - it's not that far away!
