What is the best way to get from Nizamuddin Delhi station to Delhi International Airport? Is there a public transport link or should I get a taxi? How long will it take?
I'll be arriving (from Dehradun)at Nizamuddin station 14.40 to get my flight dep 18.30 (need to check in at 15.30, I think)

Many thanks,

Nicola (newbie making last minute rather fraught plans in UK)

Best go to the pre - paid booth as you come out of the station on your left. From memory this station isn't as hectic as some and as long as your train isn't late , you should have plenty of time - hope all goes well.

You will have to take a taxi. Should take you an hour or so. You also have to keep 15 mins for getting off the train and reaching the taxi stand.

Though I think checking in 2/2.5 hours before for an international flight may be ok (maybe Delhi IMers can correct this), you may be a little tight for time, specially if the train is late.

If on time, should not be a problem.

Sadly, I'd advise against that train.

It's got absolutely no added time on the timetable.

(Often a train has an extra 30-40 minutes added to the timetable to allow it to arrive 'on-time')

Any delay would put you in trouble, and as you're doing 'last minute' planning, you're likely to be travelling back to Delhi at the time when fog causes many delays.

The Jan Shatabdi (train 2056, not Sundays) gives you a much better chance of getting to the airport on time, and although you'd need to get out of bed earlier, the peace of mind would be worth it.

Train 2056 departs Dehra Dun at 05:10, then Haridwar at 06:23 and gets to New Delhi station at 11:15.

Air con Chair class = Rs 380
Bookable 2nd class seat = Rs 117

The bookable 2nd class seat is a great was to travel, comfy seats and an open window, the carriage won't get too crowded either, as it's a Jan Shatabdi.

There is a black and yellow taxi cab just outsidethe station -- You should make it on time. Even if you reach the tail end of theline at the airport it will be ok.

very tight and I wouldnt trust the time table to be exact, I would bank on a delay rather than not.

Fantastic replies - thank you

What an amazing response from you - thank you so much! Today I was told that my Indian Airways flight has been cancelled and swopped. I realise that maybe things are a bit more fluid than I'm used to. That and your words of caution combined and I've decided to be on the safe side and changed my train times so I won't be cutting it fine. So I'll be arriving from Dehradun on the Mussoorie overnight Express arriving Shahdara at 06.56. Now I've got a bit more time in Delhi as I don't have to check in to the International airport til 15.30. Maybe I'll take the new metro to a busstop in the centre from where I can get a shuttle bus to the airport. Where do the shuttles go from and are they near the metro stations? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thank you, Nicola
