Hello All,

We just moved to Delhi and would be living in Gurgaon for the next few years. How can we find an english speaking driver that would also be safe and reliable? Any thoughts? PLease help with any recommendations that you may have.

Thanks,

B&B

I just turned down an English speaking driver in Gurgaon as he wanted twice as much as a regular driver !

I figured a cheat sheet with "Work", "Home" and "pub" would do me.

I can get you the agency contact info if you are interested ?

Would love to have that number

Hey Colin,

Thanks for the reply. Would love to have the number of that agency. Also how much was he asking for (if you don't mind me asking)? Are these drivers vetted and safe?

Thanks again.

So this guy was 8,000 + overtime (which would mean 13k to 14k pcm)

Turns out I misunderstood the hiring process. I'm told that the good guys come through references from the other drivers that the people in my office have. They also get interviewed by people here at work who I trust.

That really is top price, so if you're paying that you should expect an experienced and professional driver who speaks good English, knows Gurgaon and Delhi well, and who can be trusted to carry out routine car maintenance tasks.

It might be worth initially employing a driver on a short term basis, to assess whether you are happy with him.

Thanks so much for all the information especially around the hiring process. Also, the tip about short-term hiring is a good one.
Colin: Did you still have the number of the agency that you had earlier mentioned?
