My friends and I (around 6 to 7 people) planning to Visit Darjeeling in September End or October 1st week.

We are coming from chennai, we are taking train to NJP and planning to opt for travels for sight seeing. (Is it good that we hire travels for sight seeing and visit other places inDarjeeling) or we can go by local transport? Kindly Suggest which is best?

we dont want to miss anything to visit, how many days needed to cover all the tourist spots in Darjeeling?

Our budget is 10000 per head including train charges, is this enough? And we will oonly opt for dormetry type hotels...

Kindly suggest us any ideas or any advice to enjoy our Tour... Thanks in advance...

Hi Padmanabhan,

Welcome to India Mike.

Darjeeling is a hill station & a district as well . If you want to visit only the "Darjelling" city & it's places of interest , It's possible to cover all the points within 2/3 days .

But if you want to visit other tourist destinations in the hills of Darjeeling District (Like Kalimpong / Lava / Loleygaon / Rishyap etc.) , it will require 5/6 days more.

For sightseeing purposes you have to book Exclusive Cars .. But for point to point transfer (Like NJP to Darjeeling Or Darjeeling to Kalimpong etc etc) you will get local transports (shared Tata Sumo / Bolero ).

Gangtok & Darjeeling in 5 days may be a bit Hectic .. Still here is a basic plan :

Monday - Reach Darjeeling / Tuesday - Darjeeling Sightseeing / Wednesday - In the Morning (around 4 a.m.) Make a trip to Tiger Hill for Sunrise & after Breakfast transfer to Gangtok / Thursday - Gangtok Sightseeing / Friday- back to NJP from Gangtok.
