Hi,
I am going to visit Darjeeling during the first week of March. Please suggest me some good hotel names. My per day budget would be around 1000-2000 rupees. Anything cheaper will be nice, but it has to have some standard.
Should I book the hotels in advance? Or on spot booking can be done?
Do I need to book the toy train ride tickets in advance also? I do not want to miss it for the world.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Kuhelid

First week of March is also off season in Darjeeling. I went there 15th to 17th March and find some hotels as you want.
1. Hotel Mansarovar (off season rate 800 and 1200 in season no view Gyser not available but hot water always available as you need staffs are very good) Stair between Vijaya bank and Capital restaurant take you to Hotel. Kunga Resturant is situated just beneath the Vijaya bank.

2. Capital(rate 900 and 1200 in off season and 1800 and 2400 in season) landmark Vijaya bank. Its just in front of Mansarovar, Gyser available.

3.Old Bellevue (Came to know a pals that they stayed there during our stay @800 and gyser and wifi available) , on the mall.

Must try Bonny's kitchen (opposite to Darjeeling Municipality) : momo and chicken Manchurian good.

Spot booking will be good as you bargain more.
Regards
Swati

Hi Swati,
Thank you so much for all the information. However I am a bit late to respond back. I offer my sincere apology for that.
I experienced a fairly crowded Darjeeling during March first week. And honestly, I did not like the type of crowd. They were highly insensitive type, the typical Indian tourist. If you know what I mean. The foreigners were way better and way more respectful towards our country. The shame is on us I guess. I even spotted one so called upper class rich family travelling with an underage domestic help; that infuriated me beyond words. Anyway.
We faced a hard time looking for a decent hotel. And I am sorry to say my impression about Darjeeling did not end up to be a good one. Each and every hotel we tried told us right away that nothing was vacant except deluxe suits. And deluxe suits cost 3500-5000 approx. After some time we realized they were simply lying to extract more money from us. I must say, I hated Darjeeling from that very moment. We spent one night at hotel Dekeling and they robbed us for that one night. From next day onward we took accommodation in a different hotel though I forgot its name. It cost us 1100 per night. The room's temperature was lower than that of outside and it used to feel like we entered morgue every time we checked in. No room heater was available either.
We did try Kunga and I am so glad we did so. Probably the only thing I loved about Darjeeling.
