Adored All India Mike Friends,

I made a great family trip in January-2013 from 18/01/2013 to 26/01/2013.

On 18/01/2013 I alongwith my wife and son board on Darjeeling Mail AC 3 Tier.

On 19/01/2013 the train reached NJP at about 9-30 AM (2 hrs. late). Immediately after get outside of the Rly. Stn. the Car Drivers caught us by saying Rs.200/- per head for Darjeeling. But fortunately, one Driver told me Rs.150/- per head. I booked 4 seats on the Middle seat of the Jeep for Rs.600/-. The jeep started at about 10-30 AM. After 3 to 3 and half hour we reached at Darjeeling. Our booking was in Hotel May Fair Lodge just back side of Hotel Capital. It is the Holiday Home of Berger Paints Employees Co-operative. There was a meal system lunch & Dinner. For Veg.-Rs.70/- and for Non-Veg.-Rs.100/-. Tea per cup Rs.10/-. In the evening we walked to the Mall and the surrounding area including Mahakal Temple. At about 7 PM we back to Hotel.

On 20/01/2013 at about 4-30 AM we started for Tiger Hill-Batasia Loop-Ghoom Monestry and some other sightseeing, arranged by the Hotel Personnels @ Rs.150/- per head. As on 20/01/2013 there was a Rally of Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha the Driver told us to complete sightseeing within 11 AM. So, after Tiger Hill-Batasia-Ghoom we visited a Tea Garden, Rock Climbing, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Zoo Garden and back. The beauty Tiger Hill was marvelous. Darjeeling is Darjeeling. It's really the Queen of Hills and especially the Sun Rise on Tiger Hill. I can't explain the the entire scene of the Sun rise. I can keep it only in mind till my death. Everyone should visit Darjeeling only for Tiger Hill-Toy Train Joyride & Tea.

Thereafter, we reached at hotel at about 10-45 AM and after Lunch we started for Toy Train Joyride at 13-20 hrs. It was also a marvelous journey. We visited Ghoom Rly. Museum and eat MOMO too. At about about 3-30 PM we again reached at Darjeeling Rly. Stn. The scenic beauty cannot be write in language.

After that, we started walking for Lal kuthi(GTA Headquarter). After one hour walking we reached lal kuthi. But I thout the lal kuthi is same as the british banglow what saw in the bengali LALKUTHI. But alas, the GTA demolished all the building and its others by constructing a new building for them. The entry fee was Rs.20/- per head along with complementary Darjeeling Tea. After 30 minutes we again started for Mall. After loitering on Mall we took Momo and visited the shops for marketing. At 7 PM we back to Hotel.

On 21/01/2013 at about 11 AM we went to Chowk Bazar for a shared jeep for Kalimpong. We reached Kalimpong at about 3 PM. The fare was 110/- per head. We again booked 4 seats of the Middle. At Kalimpong we got entry to the Trveni Lodge near Police Stn. We could not be able to sightseeing at Kalimpong as we were tired and next day at 8 AM we had to board on Bus for LAVA.

On 22/01/2013 At about 7-30 Am we check out for the Bus for LAVA which started at 8 AM. The Driver was an old & responsible person. We booked ticket from the Counter at Taxi Stand (Trveni Travels). Fare Rs.40/- per head. We reached at Lava at 10 AM. After breakfast in Hotel Orchid just beside of the Taxi Stand at Lava and took a Porter for Rs.200/- for RISHOP. We did a trek to Rishop which a also a nice walking for 4 KM. We completed it 90 minutes with kid of 7 yrs. The journey was too beautiful to say. We stayed at Neora Valley Resort at about 12-30 PM. Took lunch there. Food was costly in my view. We took a loitering after lunch. There was very cold. In the early morning I alone went for taking photographs of Sun rise and the great Kanchanjangha.

On 23/01/2013 we took breakfast and at 10 am we started for KOLAKHAM including Chhangi Falls by jeep by paying Rs. 1900/-. The Chhangi Falls in also ......... can't explainable. At about 2 pm we reached at KOLAKHAM RETREAT. After lunch we visited the village and the village people they are also very nice. We started Camp Fire for our own at about 5 PM to save ourselves from cold till 9 PM we three were before the Fire. The fooding is very high there. Rs.350/- per head (Bed Tea to Dinner) for Veg. and Rs.400/- for Non Veg.

On 24/01/2013 we started for LAVA at about 8-30 AM. on 23/01 there was Morcha Rally at Kalimpong and as such we could not got the Shared jeep from Kolakham to Kalimpong. But it is too fortunate to us that one local Morcha Leader helped us by taking us in their Rally jeep upto Lava. I always remember Mr. Karan Ji for such help. Really Hats off to him. The fellows of Kolakham Retreat were very nice.

There after, we board on the Bus at 10 AM again with same Old Driver for Loleygaon of a 45 minutes trip. Fare Rs.80/- per head up-down. after 1 hr. 45 min. we reached Loley gaon and after Canopy Walk and loitering in Loleygaon we started at 12-30 PM for Lava. There was booking at Choice Guest House. After lunch we went for Lava Monestry and others. But unfortunately owing to Thursday the Museum/Park was closed. At 6 PM we put ourselves in the Hotel and at 8 PM we went again Hotel Orchid for dinner with MOMO.

On 25/01/2013 we started for NJP at about 8 AM. There was a shared Jeep (14 seater) for Siliguri. We booked four seats in the middle in advance from Blue Robin Travels. The jeep started 8-30 AM via Goru Bathan. The scenic beauty was really unexplainable. Fare Rs.130/- per head.

At about 12-30 PM we reached at Siliguri. Then NJP by Auto. Fare Rs.150/-. At about 1 PM we reached NJP Rly. Stn. and booked a Retiring Room for Rs.160/- and fresh ourselves by using the Geisure. At 8-30 PM the Darjeeling started for Sealdah and on 26/01/2013 we reached Sealdah at 6-30 AM.

I hats off to the All India Mike Friends who shared their hands for help. I thankful to the M/s Holiday home india of Kolkata as I booked my accommodation through them. I thankful to Mr. Raj of Darjeeling-Tourism.com and especially to DURONTO JAJABAR of India Mike Travel Forum.

So, friends, go and visit our North Bengal immediately with your family.

Nice short and crisp TR. Informative too. But where is the pics? One more thing: can you please tell us how is the Berger Holiday Homeat Darjeeling, the room, ambiance, hot water, attached bath, service and most importantly whether Mt. K is visible from the room.

Respected Ashis Da,

The Holiday Home of Berger Paints Employees Co-operative, namely, The Hotel May Fair Lodge (Not Mayfair Hills) is situated just behind of Hotel Capital in front of Clock Tower. There is some upward stairs which not suitable for Sr. Citizens. The service is excellent. The Kanchanjangha view can be available from the Balcony by seating on a Sofa. The best room is Room No.-115. The geezer will be on on request. But they maintain it. Whenever we desired for hot water they supplied. Bathroom is attached. Room Heater rate is Rs. 25/- per hour. But I don't know the rate for whole day as I did not avail it. The fellows are very sober.

Thanks, Asmit! But climbing uphill would be difficult for me. Hence, this Holiday Home will not be suitable as far as I am concerned. Do you know any other place which is good for people like us?
