Dear everyone,

I am planning a holiday to Darjeeling this year in September 2015 and would like your feedback. My starting point is Kolkata, and I understand that I need to take a train from Sealdah, (Darjeeling mail ) to NJP.
Do Ii get a toy train there or how do i get to Darjeeling if there is no toy train.
Can I have some costs please and how to book the Darjeeling Mail.

Also from Darjeeling I need to come to Bagdogra airport to catch a flight to Paro in Bhutan. How do I get to the airport from Darjeeling?

Are the roads safe to Darjeeling?

I would appreciate your reply
Thanks

Hi Florencio,
If you are planning to go to Darjeeling then you have made a right choice, Darjeeling is just not a beautiful but also a great place to travel.
Places like
Tiger Hill
Batasia loop
Rock Garden
Japanese Temple
Mall road
There are lot of activities that you can also do
Para Gliding
Horse Riding
Take a ride in the famous toy train
Take a trek to Sandakphu
In all Darjeeling is a great place for tourism.

Toy train is there, but from Kurseong to Darjeeling. It is not the means of transport, its only for joyride. The moment you get out from njp station, you get hundreds of suv's in the station area, you can reserve or your shared price will come to around 300 INR per person.
You can book Darjeeling mail from IRCTC site but booking has to from India only.
For return also you get car from Darjeeling to IXB.
I could not get your last question about 'being safe', but there are no dragons or monsters on the way .

That information is incorrect.

You can use the IRCTC site from outside India if you have an Amex card with SafeKey enhanced security active. If you wish to use Mastercard or Visa then you can book using Cleartrip which lists many, but not all bookable trains.

Yes, the toy train is running between Siliguri (New Jalpaiguri) and Darjeeling. But it is not very popular among the ordinary travelers because it takes about seven hours.

Yes the toy train is fun to be in , But the journey takes almost 7hrs.
Where as a 4 wheeler would take like a 3-4 hrs only to reach darjeeling.
