I am traveling to Sikkim where there are few if any ATM machines outside of Gangtok. I start in Darjeeling. My plan is to take travelers checks (which I have not used in years) and cash and then exchange into INR at a bank in Darjeeling. I just want to be sure of this plan in advance. Does anyone know if this can be done or will I have trouble? Thanks.

The checks do not have expiry date, so that is not the problem. Could you not check with the issuer to see if they have any banks/private exchanges that still honour the brand you have in sikkim?
