Hello All

We family members are planning to go for a 10-11 days including train journey trip to Darjeeling, Gangtok, Pelling. 3 senior citizen, my 8 years old daughter, my husband and myself will be there in this group. We are planning to go in September and during Durga Puja. Expected departure on Saptami night.

I have some queries related to this trip

1) is it good time to travel in this route
2) we have senior citizen aged 65 years approx and a kid in our group. So is it fine for them to travel?
3) we need budget hotels to stay in this 3 places
4) how about the road condition
5) I need a detailed itinerary
6) wish 2 travel Darjeeling 4m NJP via Mirik
7) how will be the weather then
8) can we take a picture with the toy train except we don't take a ride?
9) what to shop & from where?

Plz suggest. Waiting 4 reply

There are many trip reports in this forum. Please go through them and make a draft plan. General days are mentioned in the link provided earlier.

This year Saptami is on 27th Sep & Sep end is not a good time to visit these places. Monsoon continues till end of Sep / early October in Darjeeling-Sikkim hills. Weather usually clears up around Mid Oct

Dear Arupratan Ghosh

Actually planned for September based on the leave schedule we can arrange from our office ...

Then you are saying that October end and November beginning are fine. Right?

One more question. What will be better plan. NJP -- Darjeeling -- Gangtok -- Pelling -- NJP or NJP -- Gangtok -- Pelling -- Darjeeling -- NJP?

You may opt for the 2nd option & can visit Mirik lake too on your way back to NJP from Darjeeling

Thank you so much. After discussion with my family we have decided to start our journey from Kolkata on 6th October. We will go according to the 2nd option means NJP - Gangtok - Pelling - Darjeeling.

Now I have some more query. We want to do some sightseeing on the way. Like from NJP to Gangtok is it possible to visit another place on the way? And what will be better option to visit while transferring from Pelling to Darjeeling -- Namchi or Mirik? And if we reach Gangtok directly from NJP within 11 am, is it possible to do any local sightseeing on that day?

I will be back with an itinerary soon. Need approval or modification on that.

Thank you all

Usually cabs takes you directly to Gangtok from NJP. They do not offer any sightseeing trip en route .

Yes you can opt for a local Monastery Trip on that day if you are interested . I would not suggest any trip to view points ( like Ganesh Tak / Hanuman Tak) in the afternoon .

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I have planned an itinerary mentioning below

Day 1: train from Kolkata
Day 2: NJP to Darjeeling via Mirik
Day 3: Darjeeling sightseeing
Day 4: Darjeeling to Pelling. on the say Pelling sightseeing
Day 5: Pelling to Gangtok via Namchi and Ravangla
Day 6: Changu, Baba Mandir, Nathula
Day 7: Gangtok sightseeing
Day 8: Gangtok to NJP. Train
Day 9: Kolkata

Or it can be vice versa

Day 1: Train from Kolkata
Day 2: NJP to Gangtok
Day 3: Changu, Baba Mandir, Nathula
Day 4: Gangtok sightseeing
Day 5: Gangtok to Pelling via Namchi and Ravangla
Day 6: Pelling sightseeing. Transferred to Darjeeling
Day 7: Darjeeling sightseeing
Day 8: Darjeeling to NJP via Mirik
Day 9: Kolkata

Now want to know some things based on the itineraries
1) which itinerary is better
2) in between transfer of Pelling and Darjeeling what are the places we can cover
3) is there any closing days of any places as I heard Nathula use to close on Monday and Tuesday. If there any please mention.

You need to add 1 more day to make it perfect ( in case of both Plan A and Plan B).

I would suggest you to follow plan B with an extra day in between Pelling & Darjeeling. You may do this -

Day 6: Pelling sightseeing. Night stay at Pelling

Day 7 : Pelling to Darjeeling transfer

Day 8 : Darjeeling sightseeing

Day 9: Darjeeling to NJP via Mirik

Day 10 : Kolkata
