Hi,

As mentioned in my earlier posts, I am planning a visit to Chhattisgarh this Winter. I would like to visit some unexplored areas of Chhattisgarh. Could anyone suggest me some places?

Thanks in advance.

n January 2009 we visited Chattisgarh on a tour with a car+driver which started in Sambalpur (Orissa).

Places we visited, en route or overnight were amongst others
Sirpur, Raipur, Jagdalpur, Rajim, Kawardha and ended in Amarkantak.
We also went to several tribal villages.

A detailed report is in the January part of our journal From Kochi to Delhi

Shakeel, I'm very inclined to discuss the possibility of a C'Garh trip and to understand which areas are safe to visit. I recently visited a few stalls related to chattisgarh and fell in love with dokra brass works. I'm also impressed by the forest regions (As seen in pics). Plenty of tickets in sleeper class are available even now from delhi.
Can you tell me which areas would be good to visit (around 5-6 days there- rest spent traveling back and forth between Raipur / Bilaspur and Delhi)? If possible, pm me your number and i can call.
thanks in advance
Vaibhav

Razzaq - trip was fantastic. You may check my signature for a fairly long trip report (included amarkantak in the neighboring state). Please have a look and come back with any questions you have.

phew! that was big! i just completed your trip report, but only the one about chhattisgarh.i will read the rest in the coming days.

I must say after reading your post i felt like closing down my blog! compared to your way of writing mine looked something b-grade. excellent work!

I am about to spend one year in Raigarh, chhattisgarh doing my PG in Jindal Institute of Technology.I was a bit apprehensive about CG but your report has cleared most of my doubts.

I would like to ask, though,do you have any idea about raigarh and the surrounding places?

thanks for the wonderful report !

Thanks Razzaq for the kind words. Well, I didnt go to Raigarh but I spoke with a few passengers on the train, one of them did some business in that area. It's a majorly industrial town I hear - however, Hirakud dam is closeby and worth a visit.

Overall, since you have an entire year, you could easily visit Bar Nawapara a few times. Speak with the forest officer over there and book yourself into a forest rest house. It's worth the effort - chances of spotting a leopard are quite high.

There're temples in Rajim, Sirpur etc that should be within driving distance.

Good luck with your studies.

Settle down quick, perhaps i will come see you sometime there . I loved that part of the country (especially bastar). The honesty and simplicity of the people and their joie-de-vivre is unmatched ....
