Hi

I am planning to make it to Jagdalpur from Nizamabad by public transport. Googling for this left me with two choices pretty much - a) take a train in Raipur direction and take a bus from Raipur or b) take a train to Vishakapattanam and hop on another train from there to Jagdalpur.

There seems to be national highway 63: Nizamabad - Manchiryal - Jagdalpur. But I couldn't find any buses going to Jagdalpur from Manchiryal/Kaleswaram side. Has anyone attempted this before? If so I would be really grateful if you can share your experience.

The bus doesnt run as a bridge on NH63 south / south-east of was bombed by the maoists and i havent seen a report in last ten years that it has been re-built and someone did that route. If you're bent on doing the bastar area as a solo tourist, I'd recommend strongly that you take a guide with you. Shakeel Rizvi is the one i traveled with for a market visit to Tokapal and the same day we went to Dantewada to the danteshwari temple. In general, the triangle south-east of Jagdalpur (Sukma, Konta, Bijapur (CG), etc)) is the maoist hotbed - still - and I'd advise you not to roam around alone. There's an added advantage of having a guide - the locals do not speak hindi but dialects like halbi/gondi that makes it difficult to understand what you're seeing or taking photographs of.

Easier approach is via Odisha - Jeypore is connected by bus and the hirakhand express all the way to Bhubaneswar. Fantastic part of the country though, enjoy your trip.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge Vaibhav! I have considered your suggestions and will try to amend my travel plans accordingly.

I have also looked up Shakeel Rizvi online, I am excited at the prospect of traveling the area with a local.
Although ideally I would have liked to venture on my own, since there isn't enough clarity/info around
how things are in this part of the world, it might be well worth going with a guide.

I shall post my plans here once I have finalized on things.
