Hi, we're planning a tribal tour in Chhattishgarh on Dec 2012- to meet the tribes people in their villages, markets etc.

1. We wanted to make sure if needed any premission before (same as needed in Orissa)?
2. will we be able to take a photos of the tribal villages and people?

Thanks for your helo

Hi

To answer your questions:

1. As of December 2011, no permissions were needed to visit anywhere in Chattisgarh. However, the district administration for a particular region would advice people not to visit depending on security situation.

2. Yes, very much possible. Unlike their tribal counterparts in Odisha, the tribals in bastar are more friendly and less exposed to camera toting tourists. Some of the older women would not like to be photographed (they dont wear a blouse), but most of the younger lot (especially men) are fine to take pictures of. As with anywhere else in the world its best to ask politely before taking a picture. You may want to look at my trip report (in my signature) for an idea as I went to a few tribal villages and markets.

good luck!
