Dear Friends,
I want to go to an offbeat point in chhatisgarh but revered as Niagra of India- Chitrakot falls.
Iam with my family of 13 with 4 Senior citizens.
Iam planning to arrive on 15Aug morning 08.30hrs at Raipur .
Mode of travel will be Tempo Traveller A/C 13 seater all thro the trip.
15Aug- Raipur to Amarkantak , 300km, Night Stay
16Aug-Amarkantak to Raipur, 300km, Night Stay
17Aug-Raipur to Jagdalpur-Chitrakot Falls, 360km, Night Stay
18Aug-Chitrakot falls-Tirathgarh Falls-Raipur, 400km, Fly back to Delhi in evening 19.00 hrs

My sincere query is that will it be enjoyable to travel 300km daily in day?
Should I make any alteration?
Which activity should not be left undine at these points?

Waiting for the reply.

We visited this area back in 2009 and had a car + driver with us.
We had a lot more time so it is difficult to comment about all the distances you have to travel.

One day we drove from Raipur to Jagdalpur. It took 12 hours but this included a 2 hour visit to a local market.

If you are interested in details read the January part of my Kochi-Delhi journal, the link is in my signature.

Suggest you drop amarkantak from this trip. Look at my trip report in the offbeat forum. Spend first day getting from Raipur to Jagdalpur with a stop at kondagaon. Remaining in Jagdalpur visiting chitrakote on one day, tirathgadh on another and either dantewada or barsur on the third. Combine local market visits on each day as you feel like. In the rainy season in bastar 300 km is not enjoyable at all.

Dear Vaibhav and Vonkla
Thanks for your reply.
I've already gone thro your report in articles section with superb photographs.
I agree with you for distances but is tempted towards Amarkantak for senior citizens.
I've booked chitrakote resort for 17Aug. Where do you propose to stay for rest TWO nights in Jagdalpur ?
Visiting local market is great idea.
Anything specific of kondagaon!

Kondagaon is covered in good detail in my report - the NGO (saathi bastar run by bhupesh tiwari) there can help arrange local market visits and also help see potter and metalsmith's works. If you'd like stay more in Jagdalpur either Naman bastar or Rainbow hotel are OK depending on your budget. Rainbow is a bit downmarket. A better option is Devansh residency.

The road between Amrakantak and Bilaspur is very bad and avoidable. As it is the state boundary, neither side is interested in taking care of the road. Another option would be to drop the bastar side entirely and focus only on north chattisgarh and a bit of west CG. Plenty to see that side as well - consider Achanakamar sanctuary, Chilpi valley, etc.

If I had senior citizens with me I'd avoid such a hectic trip.

Your verdict respected.
That's the amazing benefit of social sites and powerful organizations such as IndiaMike.
The factual position and personal experience mixed together clear all doubts.
I'll going straight down to jagdalpur while halting at Gangrel and Kondagaon.
Stay at jagdalpur middle range hotel ~ 1500/- PerRoom(A/C must) for TWO days and do Tirath Garh and Dantewara on separate days.
Local Haat is there on Sunday,17Aug at jagdalpur, and will visit that as per your suggestions.
Shall I buy things from "Shabri" govt. emporium or Local haat or Kondagaon?
Which will better suit me Hotel Naman or Rainbow? Any contact nos. ?

I hope rains to mild down till then.

Good call. Phone numbers for both hotels as well as Saathi bastar are there at the end of my trip report. I procured from Shabari emporium as well as the haat in Tokapal and at Saathi, Kondagaon. The pieces at Tribal markets are untouched by modern day sensibilities but may not appeal much (can be seen as 'too wild'). Shabari is good value for money and honest staff. Between the two hotels you've mentioned Naman is more expensive than rainbow but also nicer. Check their site and call them if they can offer you a good deal since you have a sizeable number of people.

Do post photos / report of your trip. Would be great to see them again

Hi All

I am planning a trip in this area in 1st week of November. I plan to travel to Jagdalpur from Kanha and move on to Vizag. Do you have any update on the Maoist activities in this area? Bastar, Dantewada being the epicentre.

Thanks

Sandip
