Hi all,
Has anyone ever had a good experience with a women's tailor in Chennai - even if we have to provide the design/cut? I am not asking for a lot. I have good Anokhi jackets that I would like replicated in silk. I would also like some simple box style blouses, and sleeveless tops that are straight cut. The quality of stitching finish is extremely important.

I am tired of buying readymade clothes online - in India, they don't always fit well even if you pay 1000s of rupees for it, and when you buy from Mango or wherever else, you get tired of the material (and ironically, they are made in countries like India and do look good). India has an amazing diversity of textiles and I would like my westernised outfits to reflect that.

Thank you!

Welcome, Lakshmi!

Your name sounds local, but your request for information doesn't. Are you Indian? (if you don't mind me asking).

My wife is, and has been living in these parts for several decades. Tailoring (Indian stuff: salwar kameez, blouses, etc) never seemed to be a problem, but, in recent years, she gets through the local tailors at the speed of light: increasing prices for decreasing quality.

So it seems that tailoring is a minefield.

For quality western outfits my wife used to have 2 words: Dubai or Singapore. Or some of the luxury shopping malls such as DLF Emporio in Delhi, no idea if something similar exists in Chennai. She wasn't into local tailoring but I guess the same caveats as for business suits apply: terribly difficult to find consistency in tailoring, at any price.
