nycank, thanks for all the links, I always like seeing new posts in this thread.
Some of the low cost carriers are not in ITA. I doubt you'd get Air Asia

Double - Double

Here are two more tools. One is route happiness tool - Because not all flights are created equal. www.routehappy.com

The other is flight connections. See how many flights between a pair, or how many non-stops originate from a city/airport.

flightmemory now in English

Fun application.

Quote:
The original application in German, FlugStatistik.de was launched in 2005 and has over 15,000 registered users (March07), mainly in Germany but from all over the world as well.

As a result of the frequent pleas for an English version, FlightMemory has been developed as the first sibling-site. Both sites run on the same application allowing users from all over the world to share their FlightMemory and statistics

Thanks for the link.

Do we get a prize for guessing what the website's about?

I can guess that we tell them our dreams and they try to match us with a person with similar dreams, and I further guess that romance and a relationship are the ultimate goals.

Problem is, we shouldn't be guessing, the website should tell us in advance.

A similar website could be used to find ideal travel partners, where romance isn't the goal.

WHY NOT TO FULFILL IT TOGETHER?

In a website of few words, shouldn't it read "Why not fulfill it together"

The person who forwarded it to my inbox, is to put it mildly, solo backpacker pretending to be frugal and poor. Other than that, it is work in progress, and not really frequent flyerish

It's a good idea, and could prove popular.

It's also helped me to understand the reason my past relationship's keep failing, we didn't have the same dreams, it's nothing to do with me being a heartless, emotionless, selfish pig as was too often suggested.

In private beta - A Roaming Killer App called Roamer.

From the FAQ

Quote:
What is Roamer?

Roamer is an app that lets you drastically reduce roaming costs (by up to 90%) when travelling and keep your usual phone number for incoming and outgoing calls. We use GSM to connect calls (not WiFi or 3G), thus offering excellent call quality irrespective of the internet connection speed.
This may not be for all, and it is restricted to iPhone and Android smartphones. Windoze and Crackberry app yet not available.

That's also worth a thread of it's own, but it's not worth me doing it, even if I travel for 6 months, my phone stays at home, so I've no experience of those frustrating roaming charges.

It is essentially for US based travelers who cross the borders on a regular basis. Since roaming charges across the US has been "a thing of the past", this addresses the question of keeping in touch with home-base, families, and clients/customers for international travel.

I personally know of people who have 10,000+ minutes per month billing. One can however, cobble together a thing like this as a DIY, based on open source software and off-the-shelf-hardware.

Talking Only for Gringos and yanqui for now !!!

Don't you sometime feel like going somewhere exotic, say The Far East ? Or want to search for dirt-cheap beer dives serving soggy and stale fish n chips in Pakistan ?

You get the idea, right ! http://vimeo.com/getgoing/flightfinder

So, for example, if you are from Buffett town, and you want to take a yoga trip for six weeks and then two weeks of fun-n-frolic. Getgoing finds you flights to the closest retreats. It will not rip you off by taking you to Hare-Krishnaland for $18,000 for Dosacity for slightly less. It will take you right next door

But suppose you are not from Midwest like Nebraska or Illinois but from NooYok ! you can wink at the App and it will give you locations befitting your taste and style of yoga

Hmmm, Maui to Bali ?? Now that is more like my style - Remember Julia Robert's movie Love Eat & Pray ? You get the idea !!!

Oh, yes; It has very limited (close to nil) start cities outside the North American region. For now !

It is work a in progress, but has the potential.

I like this quote -

Quote:
Travel planning is a major pain point for 49% of travelers, and travelers spend on about 29 days visiting 20+ websites during the research and planning phase. It's a time-consuming process because resources for trip-planning are scattered and while you can find information about specific destinations, it's hard to find a fully baked itinerary that connects the dots. William Tang and Scott Thompson — childhood friends with a penchant for travel and innovation — are integrating hashtags into travel planning to help you craft itineraries based on three pillars: inspiration, itinerary creation and sharing.
No # 9 and No # 10 are really promising i.e I'll probably use it. But the greatest tease, for the sinners or saints alike - Triptease — For Finding Lustworthy Destinations

Better that Booze, Sex and Rock'n'Roll

Better that Booze, Sex and Rock'n'Roll Pi, The Raspberry Kind

Tipping my baseball hat to my compadres across the pond for undertaking a herculean task wading into the cesspool of grinch clones !

And finally - a tiny magicbox for the road - my own Yuki Nausicaa !
