Congratulations on your new addition. Do make sure that you b disconnect your house crcuit from the mains before you hook up your generator to it. You probably know this already. I am going to b get one too as soon as I can create space for it. Unfortunately inflation of our universe doesn't help me here.

We got it a few months ago. Our electric flood-water pump is so good that it doesn't even allow water build-up in the garden, but... power cuts. So Mrs N decided we should have a generator

Yes, it is wired so that mains and generator supplies are mutually isolated. Nothing fancy like auto-switching, just a manual switch to throw. It is a small generator, so first things first, we have to decide what to turn off before starting it. And we do not need it starting up for every half-hour cut!

Three power cuts yesterday - the first from around 8:30 to 5:30 and two more of over 1 hour - Grrr!
OK I've got an inverter but the batteries are now 7 years old and I've been trying to cosset them!

Good grief, I don't make car batteries last seven years! And as I understand it (), they work in a way that lead-acid batteries are happy with: some discharge followed by constant topping up, and never being drained. But I could be talking through my negative terminal.

Inverter batteries are designed for deep cycling, you can now get batteries with 60 months full warranty plus 15 months pro-rata.
If they offer so much warranty I would guess the design life is longer than that (8 years is often quoted, hence the cosseting - I use four batteries!).

Blood from a stone, eh?

I am really not expecting to see any of my balance returned, especially as a prepaid customer. It was an accident that my balance was so high. I used to recharge Rs500, which would last me for months, and, by mistake I did that twice. I am certainly not going to do anything to claim the refund. I have written it off.

Luckily I was able to get my porting code. I still have my precious number; I do not have to go through hassles with banks, etc, where the linked phone number has become a formal requirement.

Finding myself sitting in a carpark that actually had an aircel signal for a while, I phoned a friend in England. That chat would have used up a hundred and something Rs

It's nearly may, forty two degree celsius outside and yet the safeda hasn't come close to its remarkable balance of sweetness, tartness and full bodied mouth feel.

Climate change I suspect.

He is right. Most desi fruits have lost their rich taste. However, climate change may not be the (only) culprit. Quality of water, rampant use of chemicals (fertilisers, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, and what not) are more responsible.
In addition post harvest cold storage and quick ripening methods lend the finishing touch.

What Is Making You Feel "grrr" Today ?

Charles De Gaulle is the worst airport I have been till date.Period.
Chaotic, wifi doesnot work, rude security staff and terrible terrible food at Terminal 1.(read cold stale sandwiches and even worse pastries)

To top it all they had to check (just short of strip check) me thrice (for narcotics apparently).

It is adding to the woes that the flight is delayed for three hours for no declared reason and the ground staff, instead of offering an explanation or apology for the delay decides to hold a lengthy discussion with me over the club soccer scenario of West Bengal.(He was a player for Mohun Bagan club )
