WHOA.

So it just doesn't happen here with Equifax, TransUnion, et. al.

Personal data of a billion Indians sold online for £6, report claims

"The personal information of more than a billion Indians stored in the world’s largest biometric database can be bought online for less than £6, according to an investigation by an Indian newspaper.

The reported breach is the latest in a series of alleged leaks from the Aadhaar database, which has been collecting the photographs, thumbprints, retina scans and other identifying details of every Indian citizen."

Faux News influences spread far and wide ! FUD

About a half-a-million temporary sales/call-center-agents/banks-clerks/yada-yada have access to our data during Thanksgiving-through-Christmas - With or without SSN.

I would file that newspaper report under #Trumpian hyperbole

A leak may, or may not have happened, depending on which newspaper/social-network one reads.

It was always going to happen, and if it hasn't yet, it will. It would be a shame if the sum-total value of all of our ardhaar information is only a sick squid, though. But... there is not that much there: the real danger would be some way of linking into the things that are linked to ardhaar, like... bank accounts. IF that linked-to information is held on the ardhaar database, then I'm worried.

It depends on context. If I, Corporation X, get an exclusive access to gummint data; and build a multi-billion dolla empire - It is called value added enterprise. Otherwise it is a data breach

Aadhaar/DNI/SSN/CNI is just a red-herring to muddy the issue. Gullible are made partisan bakara ( he-goat )

To a certain OTA (Online Travel Agency) my details+plusplus is worth $25. (That is the amount they offer if I book through them )

To me the bigger story is that the UIDAI (which means the government) has filed a FIR with the cops against the reporter and the magazine that broke the 'story'. Talk about shooting the messenger.

In this case, it is a grey area. You, and I, know that in the marketplace of dark-web, anything is for sale.

Let this case proceed, because in US, this is where a news reporter would stop - Having bought an illegal userid to a Bank/Legit Provider's/ authorized access. He/she would not proceed to actually breach the "Unauthorized access blah blah blah.."

The details in the newspaper are post-factual. As I mentioned in another thread - Any of the half a million front & back end part-time or permanent personnel (including the desi call center, outsourced by Amrikan banks) have access to my SSN - And thus all indexed information.

So, in reality, anyone of the half million drones, have access to any and all of the data if they have SSNs.

Let me further assert ! If i was given a userid from a call center guy ! It would be unauthorized and illegal by US laws.

So ? Let desis decide - how much of what this story was FUD.
