Second that about Sade, Simone, etc.

I tried some Indian classical (or is it semi?) - a live concert of dhrupad music . One part was vocal and one part was a pakhwaj recital in jugalbandi. I've never tried anything like it, really enjoyable. The drupad vocal exponents were gundecha brothers - padmashrees- singing a tough raga (khamaj). I did a short video will try to post later. The pakhwaj was by manik munde and upadhyay (both quite young, but very good).

For a longish drive recently (500 odd km to and fro) I did what I don't do.. made a playlist of mixed up favourites... so you had Rafi, Kishore, 3 Doors Down, The Doors, Alan Parsons Project, Billy Joel, Begum Akhtar, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Sade and the like playing at random one after another. Weirdly wonderful.

I discovered last month, purely by accident, that Sade's 2011 tour (dunno where) had live performances that were consistently better than their own original numbers. That says something about their talent, and that too after so many years of the originals.

A Letter to My Younger Self" by Amber Lucid

Ambar Lucid has only a single official track on DSPs but with that track alone, she has made us an eternal fan. The Latina 17-year-old New Jersey, USA -based artist is fully-deserving of being championed as a songwriting savant. With the power of just her ethereal voice and delicate acoustic strumming, she springs new worlds into life.

While the Lucid has only officially released A Letter to My Younger Self, the bedroom-produced track is rife with mesmerizing depth. Her stunning use of wordplay that speaks to deeply profound human intricacies is made apparent in the songs opening lines. Singing, Ive just seen a ghost / The memories I hate the most, and lingering at the end of each culminating word ties the thoughts together the thoughts in such a brilliantly tragic way. From the outset, Lucid demonstrates her innate talent for weaving together subtle inflections and meticulous word choice into a larger, overarching story.
