Has anyone seen Darshan - An Indian journey?

It's made by Michael Wood who made the brilliant BBC series "The story of India", except this is made in 1989 and is Michael Woods first trip into India.

It's really a very interesting documentary, as he's quite young, in his late 20's by the looks, and is very wide eyed and wonderous about India. It's also interesting because of the time it was made, the music used, the clothes worn and the style of the documentary. I think some of the film crew were taking the odd acid trip (it was very popular in the late 80's in the UK), as the documentary is a bit surreal and has some quite arty bits in it.

I know one site where you can download it, called thebox.bz which is a torrent site, which allows people to download british tv shows. It's invite only if someone wants an invite, PM me and I'll invite you to the site.

He also has a series called Legacy in which he investigates the origins of civilisation and one of the episodes is in India. You can see how this documentary leads into the Story of India.

Cheers Matt

I love Michael Wood's documentaries! He also did one on Troy and "In the footsteps of Alexander the Great". Haven't seen the darshan one...sounds most interesting too.

I have no clue how to download a torrent, otherwise I'd certainly take up your kind offer!

By the way, he looks young for his age. I just checked, and, according to Wikipedia, he's born in 1948, making him 41 at the time of the "Darshan" filming!

Well the offer stands if you ever figure out about torrents, it's not difficult.

Another aspect of the documentary I found interesting was see the changes that had taken place in the 22 years since making it. Whilst some things remained the same, there certainly has been a clothing revolution since that time. The majority of people wore old style clothes it seems even in the busier cities...whereas now the majority seem to wear more Western clothes...at least the younger generation seem to do so.

Cheers I've not seen this one yet will buy it soon.

If you haven't already seen it Phantom India (L'Inde fantôme ) is also a wonderful piece about India in the 60's, captured on film by French director Louis Malle.

Thanks will check out your suggestion, actually the site I mentioned also has Great Railway Journeys Of The World made in 1980 with one episode traveling from bombay to Cochin by train which is pretty cool as well.

@Matthew Morris

I hope the offer still stands! I watched 'The story of India' by Michael Wood and I loved. I tried to find Darshan: A Journey to India in the local stores but unfortunately it was in vain. Please Let me know where I can download this as well as his other documentaries, it would be of real help.
Thanks in advance

yeah sure, but I see as you only have one post on this site, i can't send you a private mail, this site has some rule about it.

I need an email address to invite you to the site, but you could check to see if you are able just to sign up to the site without an invite, it's a free site which houses only British TV....but they have Darshan on there.

http://www.thebox.bz/

If you don't know how to download torrents, you can google it, very easy. Otherwise, I'm not sure when new users are allowed to start sending private messages, I think it's after 10 posts..but not sure, if you can't sign up without an invite, send me a message when this site starts allowing you to send private messages, and I'll send you the invite.

Hi Matthew Morris, if you are still there: I am very much interested in watching "Darshan" by Wood, but can't find it. The site you mentioned is closing down. Do you know of any other torrent sites where it is still available? Thanks!
