Breaking India:
Western Interventions in Dravidian and Dalit Faultlines

Has anyone read this book? Know the authors?

Opinions?

In the PBS drama it was represented as an innocent and naive Ambedkar being drawn into a divide and conquer scheme by the evil Brits. It drips of casteism and contempt for the intellect of the aforesaid not to mention buries the Dalit issues. Side note is that he was an economist (LSE) and a jurist as well..

At 650 pages - no wonder! Does it begin with the Justice Party. They were the only Indians Katherine Mayo approved of.

None of the libraries within striking distance seems to have a copy. I might get one via Inter library Loan just to browse through it. I doubt if I'm going to read it cover-to-cover.

The blurb reeks of foreigners are doing this to us.

OK, sure, they did... for hundreds of years, especially, perhaps, my ancestors but... it's like my parents screwed me up. It's a great topic of conversation at 18, but by 45?

In so far as I know anything about this stuff, which I don't, it would seem to me that Dallits have plenty to grumble about, without any encouragement from outside. I wonder if the authors are what is commonly called, in the terminology of this divide, caste Hindus?

Anyway... 615 pages to find out if there is any truth in it? I don't think so.

I know the author. I have not read this book, but one recent one, and two articles. I have heard him speak, and one has to have read a lot of ancillary indian texts to evaluate his framework & world view; There is an inverse co-relation between Glenn Beckian/O'Reillyian constructions of reality and Malhotra, and in many ways he has a indic focus.

Well.....

My reason for asking was that I got pulled into --- ok, I was interviewed for -- an article on Yoga + Hinduism and the writer asked me if I was familiar with Malhotra. I said no and the writer said "oh, you might be interested....and the other writer is a good friend of mine, I will introduce you two on Facebook...."

So you know how that goes...

But from what I read about Malhotra, he seems a bit right-wing, if I'm not mistaken?

(and no, I probably won't read the book, but shhhhh..... )

According to my trumpians friend and a trumpette from Bucktooth, SC; anyone who has a PAC is corrupt influence peddler. By that yardstick, Malhotra is involved in a PAC. Other than that he's donated to DNC and Jersey (D) candidates in his personal/individual capacity.

In this era of AWMs worldwide, it is difficult for non-white right-wing in US to get traction. Ask Bobby and see where the surgeon's poll numbers are
