Hello and thanks in advance for your help.

We are in discussions about a possible move to Bangalore and are under some pressure to commit quickly, without ever having visited (either India or Bengaluru). We are a UK family of 5 with 3 kids between 8 and 10. We would need school places and a house within manageable commuting distance of the office which would be at Bagmane World Technology Centre on KR Puram Marathalli Ring Road.

My husband was told (by someone who has visited) that this office is in Whitefield, however on Google maps it appears to be in central Bangalore. Can someone clarify?

What would be good family areas to live, that are not too far for commuting to this address? We would want somewhere safe and with access to a clean pool, plus reliable water and electricity supply.

Also – most importantly - please can you suggest which international schools would be within a manageable drive of this office location?

We have looked online but there are so many and it is hard to tell what it realistic in terms of travel, given that we read the Bangalore traffic is horrific. We would be looking for a school offering the PYP/ International Baccalaureate programme, or if not possible, the British curriculum. It needs to be academically sound, and stretch able children, as well as providing a caring and well-rounded environment. Our kids would be moving from an international school in Europe so are used to being among many different nationalities.

If possible we prefer a school that is not too old fashioned in its attitude towards girls in particular – e.g. their uniform would allow girl students to wear shorts rather than a dress, and encourage girls to participate in sports such as football – not just traditionally 'female' activities.

We are concerned about being able to secure places in a school as, due to visa complications, it will be some weeks/ months – possibly April - before we can visit and we see that schools have opened applications for admission for Aug 2015 already and that some (eg Canadian) close this process on 20 Feb – ie in 2 weeks!!!! My husband’s company has been slow to get its act together so now we are concerned we may have to apply without visiting, in order to ‘hold’ school places in possible schools until we can visit. Is this even possible? I see you have to pay an application fee, would this be non-refundable? I have of course emailed asking the schools, but so far – no answers on this.

We have also read the disturbing news reports about sexual abuse of children within schools in the city, by staff. Is this a known issue and if so which schools should we avoid?

Thanks for any comments and advice
