Hello all,

How long is the drive from Bangalore to Hampi/Hospet? How are the road conditions on that route? Do a lot of people take the driving route or do they all prefer trains?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Bangalore to Hospet / Hampi :

Bangalore - Tumkur - Chitradurga - NH 4 - 200 kms - 4 lane carriageway - excellent road )

Chitradurga - Hospet - NH 13 - 140 kms - Truck infested 2 lane highway - slow drive

I would prefer an early morning start 6 hour drive to an overnight train !!

Enjoy your stay !

Thanks!

What kind of vehicle would be recommended for 5 people with 5 suitcases such that we can fit the suitcases either some on top and others in the trunk and all of us sit comfortably. Also what can we expect to pay for the drive to Hampi/Hospet?

Hello,

Toyota Innova ( A/c, 6 bucket seats, plenty of space for luggage ) would be best suited for luxury travel. Operators charge Rs. 13 -Rs. 15 per kilometer.

Non a/c MUVs ( Tata Sumo, Toyota Qualis ) operate at Rs. 7 - 8 per kilometer.

You could visit www.sathyasaitourist.com - a reliable travel operator in Bangalore - we've utilised their services.

Hope this helps..

Hi,
I recently travelled from Bangalore to Hampi. I took the Bangalore-Chitradurga-Hampi Route.

Road Update
Bangalore - Neelamangla(25-30 Kms) Crowded Rowds with loads of trucks.
Neelamangala - Chitradurga. (175 Kms) Excellent Roads. Can easily average 85-90 on a Santro.

Chitradurga - Hampi. (NH13) Avoid this road. Real bad roads......

Would recommend booking an overnight train if you manage to get the tickets.

Prasanth, thanks for your reply!

How long did it take you to do the drive? And around what time did you leave Bangalore? How long did you spend in Hampi? Was it enough time or would you have done it in less or more time?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

We had planned to start in Bangalore by 6:00 AM but couldn't make it before 8:00 AM. Ideally i would suggest you to start in Bangalore by around 5:00 to avoid the Mad rush at Neelamangala. It will take approx 6:00-7:00 hrs to drive from Bangalore to Hampi. The first 200 Kms are excellent and could be covered in less than 3hrs. The next 150 odd kms is really a nightmare. So if you start by 5:00 you should reach Hampi by around 12:00 Noon-1:00 PM.

Also do inquire on the route via Bellaray. Though a bit longer it may be a better route.

The route i took was Bangalore --> Chiitradurga(200 Kms) NH4 doable in 3 hrs. Part of the GQ. Can easily average 80 Plus.

Chitradurga--> Hampi(NH13) 150 Kms.(approx) around 3-4 Hrs. Horrible Roads plus lot of truck traffics

I spent around 24 hrs in Hampi. I thought the time was just right. Towards the end i started getting bored seeing Rocks and ruins everywhere. If you have a real interest in ruins and archeology then you might need some more time. Do not forget to see the TB Dam near Hospet when you go to Hampi.

Also if you have time do see the fort at Chitradurga. It is an excellent fort. It is again an old fort built between the 10th and the 18th century.

You can alternately try this route.

Bangalore - Chitradurga - Davangere - Harihara - Hospet - Hampi.

At least upto Harihar you can travel in good four lane road.
