Folks,

I need info about Guwahati. My friend is moving there and I need to help her relocate.

I have read in the Indian Express and other newspapers that the city is a very patriarchal city with a lot of prejudices against working independent women? Is this true? And if so, how do you resolve such issues?

And what are he upmarket places to take an apartment in?

Guwahati a patriarchal city ! Not! Though last year one incident happened with a woman returning late from a pub , but incidents of crime against woman is much lesser compared to metros . woman freely takes public transport even at night . It is melting pot of NE cultures which are traditionally less partriachal societies.
For rent ..GS road is the main shopping centre , Beltola etc.

Guwahati is much safer place for women than most of north Indian cities. Limited places to move around.

My husband is from Guwahati so I have visited there with him many times. I have found it to be very easygoing compared to other N. Indian cities I have visited. I'm not sure how it would be if I were by myself but I have noticed even as a Western women almost no staring - in other cities even with my husband I have noticed men staring at me.
Q: Ke garne?

A: Dal bhat khanne, maaya garne, sutne!
