Hi I am planning to visit Meghalaya & Assam in Dec 29 in 7 days. I am planning to hire self driven car from Guwahatti and proceed to Shillong. I am thinking of including Haflong & Silchar in my list and for that I need to travel extra 400 km after reducing days at Shillong. Is it worth it ? What about the road condition to there from Dwaik ? I have a 9 month year old daughter as well. So in December end will it be worth taking these risks ?

I am of the opinion if in doubt do not do it. Especially with a 9 month infant.

You can proceed to Silchar directly from Shillong. I do not know your itinerary beyond Silchar. However from Silchar you can proceed to Haflong, as the road connectivity is good. From Haflong you can proceed to Guwahati via Lumding. You can also explore Dimapur, Jorhat etc.

Thanks a lot. I checked and it's 237km stretch from Shillong / Dwaki and again 300 plus back to gwahatti where ma return flight is. I don't think by car it's tough. I have option to return my car at shillong , So is haflong from Shillong and from der to guwahatti can I travel by train ? Or bus ?

Haflong is about 125 Km. away from Lumding. From Lumding you have number of trains to Guwahati. Even from Haflong you have a overnight train to Guwahati. By the way the train station is called New Haflong. The station is close to Jatinga, the major tourist attraction in Haflong.

Haflong and Lumding are connected by a recently laid four lane highway. It may not take more than two hours.
