The state museum a few streets north of the railway station makes for a nice visit.

The zoo wasn't great, but wasn't terrible either.

There are a lot of temples if you like visiting them with the more visited ones being Kamakhya and Umananda. The umananda temple being in the middle of the river I thought would make for a nice boat ride, but it wasn't that great. I had to help bail water out of the slowly sinking boat which made for an interesting experience, but not what I had in mind.

The little market to the west of the Umananda boat point is small but quaint. Further west takes you to Nehru park which makes for great people watching. Skip the walking path further east filled with the young lovers.

Somewhere around that boat point should be the planetarium which I didn't get to visit.

Knowing the reason would have helped the viewers point out places for you to visit.
In general, you can visit the Famous Maa Kamakhya Temple, Kalashetra, Balaji Temple, Basistha Temple, Deepor Beel(Lake), Umananda. there are a lot many places, but, if u want to experience something unique you can visit Umanada, The Islan Tempel. Situated in the heart of the river Brahmaputra. Easily accessible by ferries from pan bazar.
