There's some good weekend trips from Hyderabad: Vizag, Mamallapuram and especially Hampi!

It will be hot then and maybe rainy later in the summer.

Suryalanka is quite a pleasant beach escape from Hyderabad. It's a 10 minute auto ride from Bapatla station. There's an overnight train from Secunderabad, the Simhapuri express, which leaves at 10 pm and usually arrives 5.30 am at Bapatla
(Rs 1210 in 1A, 721 in 2A. I travelled 1A back to Hyderabad and it was really comfortable.

As for Suryalanka, it is the prettiest beach I've seen in Andhra Pradesh and clean, too. There are government bungalows, built on stilts, right on the beach and they are good value with lots of space, clean bathroom, satellite TV and AC. The only downside is the restaurant, which has a large menu that looks great but in reality they serve only one or two choices depending on the day and time of day. If you like body surfing the waves are OK. The beach gets a few visitors at sunset, but other times it is fairly deserted.

Kalingapatnam, near Srikakulam, is another fine beach. Although it is less safe for swimming than Suryalanka - but waist deep is still fine, few strong rips.

If you like seeing ancient monuments, Andhra Pradesh is a fantastic place to explore. There are so many ancient Buddhist monasteries in this state. My favourites are Salihundum near Kalingapatnam beach, Guntapalli caves near Elur, Amravati in the Guntur district and Phanagiri which is off the road to Suryapet if heading from Warangel.

There is also Totlakonda, Bavikonda and a couple of other hilltop Buddhist monasteries around Vishakapatnam, which is a pretty coastal area ( pretty beaches, too, but not all that clean). Totlakonda is on the coastal road between between Bhimili and Vishakapatnam and offers great views of the beaches, which can be disappointing close up due to litter and use as toilets. But from the road the beaches look fabulous.
