Hi,

Its vacation time, and I'm back with my tour plan once again ...

This time I'm planning to visit Andhra Pradesh this time, and have made the basic plan as follows -

1. 30th Sept - Start the journey from Kolkata to Vizag (Yeswantpur Exp)
2. 1st Oct - Reach Vizag in the morning, visit local spots.
3. 2nd Oct - Travel to Araku valley (Train/Bus), and visit local spots.
4. 3rd (or 4th) Oct - Return to Vizag, visit Borra caves on the return journey.
5. 4th (or 5th) Oct - Spend the day in Vizag, start for Hyderabad in evening.
6. 5th (or 6th) Oct - Reach Hyderabad in the morning.
7. 10th Oct - Return flight back to Kolkata.

Now, the queries ...

1. Should I spend 1 night or 2 nights in Araku (if the place is nice n scenic, I don't mind spending 1-2 days there doing nothing.
2. Any special location that you suggest near Araku which is recommended? I've heard there's a coffee plantation on the return route to Vizag (between Araku & Borra). Any suggestions for staying there?
3. Finally, as evident from the tour plan above, I've made absolutely no plans for my 5 day stay at Hyderabad :P. Can anyone suggest places to visit in n around Hyderabad, and in general roaming about (sampling scrumptious Hyderabadi food []).

So guys, that's it. As always - a big thanks in advance for tolerating my plethora of queries ever time

Cheers,
Suman Ghosh,
Kolkata.

Angry

One more thing I'd like to add here - I visited the APTDC office in Kolkata, and found them to be a bunch of grossly rude & incompetent people. They showed absolutely no interest in discussing with me my plans, and simply handed over a printed aptdc pamphlet. That's it. And I really don't think they had absolutely any knowledge about the places even!

These are the people because of whom tourism suffers in our country. They should be simply kicked out I guess, so that people are at least not discouraged to think of travelling to AP.

Sorry for my angry comments here, but being an avid traveller myself, I simply can't tolerate rude people in the tourism industry.

So people from Kolkata - you can simply skip the visit to APTDC Kolkata - its useless!

Oct is one the best months to visit Vizag.
Last time we have been to Aruku was in 2009 - it was very beautiful and absolutely romantic place. At that time there was heavy fog in the morning and warm weather throughout the day.
The schedule you have charted is similar to what we have done, except our starting point in Hyderabad.
If I may suggest -
Instead of going back to Vizag and then visiting Borra caves, you could actually do it from Aruku or Tyda, as the distance to the caves is less from these places compared to Vizag.
I am sorry to know that you had a bad experience in APTDC office – but if you require any assistance in scheduling your tour, please let ue know. I am sure that someone on this site will surely come to your assistance and also, IndiaMike is a better place to get suggestions

Thanks for your suggestions, streetcat!

Unfortunately, there is a severe lack of accommodation in Araku during that period. And the train to Araku (from Vizag) is running in waiting list :-(

So decided to skip Araku for this time (I'm allergic to crowded tourist spots )... I'll be traveling only to Hyderabad instead. I'll be reaching Hyd on 4th Oct in the morning, and will be returning back on 10th Oct late evening.

Would love to simply explore the city - not only the tourist spots, but also its culture, traditions and most importantly, its famous food! Both me n my wife are foodies, and we would love to explore everything - roadside eateries to fine dining.

Can you suggest any "must visit food stops" - of all kinds - veg/non-veg, big/small - anything and everything that should be sampled?

Also, any suggestions about hotels in the price range 1800 - 2000 per night, near the vicinity of Husain sagar lake/food street/necklace road?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Suman.

P.S. - About that APTDC part, just imagine the plight of those poor chaps who are not so net-savvy (hence don't have the support of Indiamike). They are totally dependent on these guys for information - and these people are least bothered!

Yes, I can sympathize. In Hyderabad there is several posts on food, the major activity besides fighting traffic. You should narrow it a bit to veg/non and region as per your preferences. Its lunch time and thoughts of the twin cities are making me hungry. Fortunately, we have the finest west coast tandoori brought in from 400 miles away. Cheers..

Thanks for the reply! In fact, after searching a bit, I found this one too --> http://www.indiamike.com/india/andhr...-food-t139370/

Rest I will explore, and of course, post what I found in this forum

But now to the second part of my question....

... any suggestions? I can also look at serviced apartments, if they are in the vicinity.

Haven't been in Hyderabad for 3 years but I liked staying at Yatri Nivas. It was about Rs 1600 per night for an AC room including breakfast. It's got a veg and non-veg restaurant and lots of locals hang out there. Also has a bar, but it's mostly blaring music and a few pathetic-looking young plonkers hanging about hoping to get lucky. It's on the north end of the lake so not central to downtown or the old city but it is close to good shopping and the Begumpet train station.

There are not any places in the vicinity of Husain sagar lake/food street/necklace road. The best place could be Marriott on the tank Bund (on the higher side budgetwise) or any of the numerous places in Lakdi-Ka-pul. Or a few places opp to the AP Secretariat. Hotel Golkonda in Masab tank is also well known for great food. Yatri Nivas is good but not anywhere close to the lake.

Thanks for the detailed advice, narendra! I had checked Marriott & Golconda, but both are beyond my budget ... I had checked out JB Guest House (opposite to the Secretariat I suppose), but since we are two people only, there will be sharing of the service apartment - which I'm not comfortable with.

Can you suggest any hotel names near Lakdi-ka-pul area which u mentioned (budget w
max 2000) ?

Thanks once again for the help!

Cheers,
Suman G.

On a side note, I think this thread is now completely shifted to a discussion on Hyderabad only, so can we move (or maybe split a portion of) it to the Hyderabad sub-forum?

Any suggestions regarding this from the mods?

There's a place called The Residence on the east side of the lake. You can look out from the restaurant onto the lake, which is just across the road. It's not in a very convenient location for accessing the city, though. I think it was about Rs 2500 when I stayed there.

Thanks for the reply, Hal!

I've just looked around (Google, Tripadvisor, various travel portals), and found a few hotels ppl were talking about, like -

1. Mandakini Jaya International
2. Spearmint Hotel
3. Padmini Residency
4. Pearl Regency-
5. Central Court (a bit pricey option).

Now can anybody suggest which ones among these will be good? It seems these hotels are not very far from Husain Sagar / Necklace road.

Thanking all in advance!

Cheers,
Suman G.
