I would have preferred to do Kolkata -> Srisailam -> Puttaparthi -> Yasvantpur Jn -> Kolkata or in reverse way reaching first to Yasvantpur then going upward to Puttaparthi, etc.

You may also directly reach Sri Sathya Sai Prashanthi Nilayam from Howrah by 22831 Howrah-Sri Sathya Sai Prashanthi Nilayam SF Express originating on Wednesdays at 15:35 Hrs and reaching destination next day at 22:25 Hrs.

Srisailem or Srisalem is one of the most weird places I have been to in my life. I was refused a room in the entire town, for the silliest of reasons : They do not give room to single people. I consider myself to be a decently seasoned traveler in India and have spent a lot of nights in a huge variety of places - this was something that was extremely hard to understand or rather digest.

oh and they threatened to shoot me inside the police station.. >_<

Spent 4 days there in 05, they were shooting a Bollywood blockbuster ( or so it seemed ), around the main temple.
The vigor and force i witnessed when the cops Lathi charged a thousand or so extra's when things got a bit raucous , would have placed the Srisailam police station as the last place i would venture for kindly accommodation advice.

Thanks for your suggestion. But I am attending to Puttaparthi as a member of Sevadal for ten days service.then I(69) along with wife(65) proceed for Srisailam. The information require--i) Availability of bus/volvo from puttaparthi, apart from train link
ii) Communication from Yesvantpur to Puttaparthi by road

Lot of buses operate on this route at various price ranges making it very convenient for travellers. If you are worried about what type of buses are available, worry not. You get to choose from A/C Sleeper (2+1), Non A/C Sleeper, Volvo A/C Multi-Axle Semi-sleeper, Volvo A/C Multi-Axle Semi-sleeper.

Plenty of government and private buses travel between Puttaparthi and Srisailam. On an average, Puttaparthi to Srisailam travel time is 4 hours.

By train the convenient way to reach from Puttaparthi to Srisailam could be to take Kondaveedu Exp from Puttaparthi to Markapur then take a taxi from Markapur to Srisailam.

The fastest way to reach Srisailam from Puttaparthi is to take Kondaveedu Exp from Puttaparthi to Cumbum then take a taxi from Cumbum to Srisailam.

The cheapest way to reach Srisailam from Puttaparthi is to take Kondaveedu Exp from Puttaparthi to Markapur then take State Transport Bus from Markapur to Srisailam.

Your suggestions are very cordial, covering cheapest, fastest Railway connection. But the train, you suggested,Kondaveedu Exp(17212) arrive at beyond the midnight. Would it be wise to get down such small stn and waiting for morning in the platform? Remember, only two Sr. citizen travelling alone.

Please check the list of other trains here.

Please note, you do not have much options from Puttapurthi. I would have gone for bus.

Quick Darshan at Srisailam

I intend to visit Srisailam on 25th December, the plan is to start early from Hyderabad, go, do the darshan and return by same day evening. I could see that online tickets are available but when I went to book I didn't see any option for quick darshan ticket there.
Any idea how can I book quick darshan ticket online? any other suggestion if tickets can not be booked online?

It would be great if you take ealiest possible bus. It takes around six hours to reach Srisailam. The darshan, even a normal one, will be over in two to three hours.

Darshan booking is responded on other thread. Please do not post same query on multiple thread.

Thanks for your reply Prakaant. We will be taking our own car and can start early. I was wondering if visiting on 25th December will take more time.

What are the other recommended places to see there?

Generally Sundays and Mondays attract more devotees, and, being a holiday, it will be attracting more people there. You should keep some time in your hand.

Srisailam is a small place, and you may complete the tour in two hours...
