Hi Arupratan Ghosh,

Thanks for your reply.

I have read through the article, Just wanted to know if I can reach Tadipatri from Gandikota by 6:00 PM by using a local transportation and also planning to visit Belum caves on the way or should I arrange for a private transportation.

Try to visit Gandikota early in the day in that case. You can cover the fort and the gorge in the morning and spend the afternoon in the caves.

I don't know the bus timings from Tadipatri to Jammalamadugu, but you can enquire at the bus station the day you reach Tadipatri. It takes about 30-45 mins from Tadipatri to Belum in the local bus. Similar from Belum to Jammalmadugu.

Thanks Kapil,

As per your advice I am planning my trip as follows:

1) Reach Tadipatri around 1:30 PM (Factoring Train Delays) Saturday.
2) Visit Tadipatri Temples
3) Catch a Bus to Jammalamadugu then towards Gandikota (Planning To reach by 5:30PM)
4) See the Sunset at Gandikota Gorge
5) Stay at Gandikota Haritha Hotel
6) Morning 6:00 AM Explore The fort and see the sunrise
7) Travel towards Jammalamadugu from Gandikota around 11:00 AM (Depending on Bus Timings)
8) Bus to Belum from Jammalamadugu
9) Belum to Tadipatri by 5:00 PM

Kapil can you let me know if this is fine and I would also like to know if one can campaign around the Gorge instead of staying in the hotel.

Thanks a Lot.

Tom

You can camp at the gorge as well, but I'd never advise solo camping. I don't know your camping experience, so cannot comment anything. The Haritha resort has to be booked online only. The buses from Jammalmadugu to Gandikota are infrequent. You may have to take a rickshaw. Also, check local sunset and sunrise timings - remember you're traveling east, so the times will be much earlier than what you're used to.

Hi Kapil,

Noted!!!

I guess according to bus timings I might drop the Tadipatri temples. From my friend who visited 2 weeks back told me sunset and sunrise is around 6:00 morning and evening. And i guess for this trip i will leave out camping.

Thanks for your Advice!!!

Tadipatri temples should not take more then an hour each if you are REALLY in to it. Else 30 mins at either is sufficient. The Bugga Ramlingeshwara (BR) Temple is near the road that leaves north to Belum/Jammalmadugu. The Chintala Venkatramana Swamy (CVS) temple is not far from the bus stand. So, I'd recommend you do the latter temple (CVS) when you reach Tadipatri on the first day and the former (BR) on your way back.

Hi Aarosh,

Jammalamadugu is my native place. So, I have a different bonding with Gandikota. It's not a trip but our yearly picnic spot.

Hi,

Sorry for the late updates, got held up with a different trip...

First Solo journey...Special thanks to a trek mate for inspiring this trip...
It Started with excitement and worry

On 24th Nov Friday, boarded train from dader at 8.30 pm to Thadipatri for Gandikota.
Train journey was as usual but I was lucky enough to see a 1 second seen of a drunk person slapping a random guy on train. Well what can I say, it all started with a bang, and personally seeing the entire seen including the anger and fight later that happen will be something you will never forget. Not something you get to see always.
Next day 25th November, reached stn. Around 1.30 pm
Caught Auto Rs.10 (sharing) took around 15 mins to reach Tadipatri bus stop.
Then Caught a bus around 1.52 pm and it left by 1.55 pm. Price 50.00.
Along the journey... The view outside was in some way reminding my native place, numerious sunflower fields, farming and various small and big temples. The bus also carried everything the toddlers, the youth, couples, the aged, vegetables in bulk, wooden chairs and even chickens.
I had offered my seat to a elderly. Who while leaving and said thanks through his expressions and touch. He knew I wouldn't understand his words. You really receive such genuine thanks very rarely in your day to day life, especially in a metro city.

As per a local, their is bus service to Jamalagundu, every 2hrs from the tadipatri bus stop. Later on when I asked the conductor, he told me it's every 45 mins.

I Reached Jamalagundu... By 4.10

Here I made a bad disection.....

Had lunch at tadipatri town, was hungry and hence entered a small restaurant in the town, brought fruits for the night and next day.

But.....

Around 5.00, I came to know that the next bus to gandikota is around 5.30 pm, the local told me ricks this late might not even ferry alone so waiting for the bus would be better. But i caught the gandikota bus at 6.17pm its really unpredictable here sometime it comes by 5.30, other time by 6.00. Lost my sunset . U need to reach Jamalagundu by 4.00 pm and hurry for a private auto... After 5.00 they normally refuse to go.. and it will cost around 200 for a private one.

But I still got a sunshine with the locals on the bus... Chearfull college students. Who were teasing each other in front of me in their own English words so that I can understand them. That was truly funny, chatting with them explaining about your professional work by using nouns and hand signs, from where you are, why did you decided to travel alone and so on... Didn't realise that we already reached Gandikota fort.

Ones you reach Gandikota bus stop the collage students who started calling me bro by then guided me towards the canyon were I planned to camp. But I continued a straight path and got lost in the forest for sometime. That was adventures but also panicking, until I thought of giving up and to retreat back to where the locals had left me. Here through a stroke of luck at a junction near a Mosque I planned to take a left, or rather normally when u walk from the bus stop u need to walk straight and take a right when u see the Mosque (Jamea Maseed). And as u walk u will reach a temple (Ranganatha Swamy Temple) were in the front, there is ample place to set a camp and even further ahead is the canyon which you can not see in the night but u could feel the winds....
Well no matter how you travel, u will still find ppl or a group with a similar mind set as you... Too camp the night at the canyon... And because of which I didn't need to make any dangerous desision and planned to set my camp near to theirs. Also it seems the locals provide a package of kayaking, camping and rappelling at the canyon if u need including the food...u only need to reach there... Nothing else... I had to rent and get the entire tent all the way from Mumbai... Hell I rock don't I...
Well I didn't plan for a camp fire.. but my fello mates had it in their package and well I got the opportunity to do all that ppl do for their camping, in my first camping, yes this was my first one. Lucky me...
Next day i work up around 6:15 listening to people's footsteps and whispers.... and..... abandoned my camp... bag... took my camera, phone and selfi stick, ran towards the Grand Canyon. Got the view for which I had traveled the sunrise and the canyon... And was lucky to view it when it was foggy and the powerful sunshine had illuminated the entire sky... It was incredible.. and also thanks for the guy who clicked my pic which is my cover pic... It was really amazing... Thank you so much...
Next got myself ready packed my tent... and started exploring the fort... Beginning with the Ranganatha Swamy temple though it was under restoration so not much to explore, then the grand granary, Jamea Maseed, Jail, a super mad buffalo too... yeah... the majestic Madhavaraya Swamy Temple, Gandikota walls, local kids climbing giant huge trees and a top view of the fort... During my fort exploring, had given my selfie stick to group of local kids, since I had pried on their conversation about wanting my selfie stick to click their photos and pushing each other to talk to me, so I just went and handed them mine, and they were delighted. They aleo started calling me bro and the same seen of teasing each other in english ones again begain.
After exploring the fort through my new friends I came to know, that the next bus is at around 10.00 am and so they had offered me to come with them to their village which is close to jamlagandu, in their big truck, which is their normal transport when they go for weddings or big events from one village to another. It would have been amazing to go with so many ppl in a truck.... but unfortunately my bus came on time and I had to cancel their offer as they were still waiting for the rest of the group to reach.

The bus before 10:00 is around 7.00.

Reached Jamalagundu by 10.45 am.
Unlike yesterday, today I had mastered the skills needed to talk to the locals... Tell the Place name you want to go.. point to the bus, the watch for the timings and so on. Being a person who likes silence this was the best way of communication for me and at some levels you enjoy it. Through this kind of communication, I came to know that for my next destination i.e. belam caves u need to catch a bus to Tadipatri and get down at Kolimigundla. From there catch a bus to belam caves.

So caught a bus to tadipatri at 11.00 am which left at 11.10. Rs. 29. Reached Kolimigundla by 12.33.
Caught bus to Belamcaves Time 12.35 (Rs.6 ).
Reached Belamcaves by 12.40.
Finished exploring the cave by 1.55 pm.
Didn't get to see mandapam... And the locations after that, they had shut it down.

Had lunch at a restaurant near belam caves, chapati (white roti) and spicy chicken curry.... It was yummy... It costs around 110

Caught bus to tadipatri by 2.36(Rs. 23).
Reached tadipatri bus depot by 3.30
There was a bus to Jamalagundu at 3.30pm from tadipatri at that time. I asked another conductor about Jamalagundu and even he said it's every 45 mins.

Well... This was my first solo trip... And it was all worth it... To see your plans getting executed... Getting lost and panicking in the night around the fort... Your first camping..... To have an unexpected camp..... to the amazing canyon and sunrise.... And chatting with the locals...Though didn't get to explore the descent from the canyon to the river and to swim in it.... Well u leave some for next time... Will go ones again to releave the experience again with atleast 2 nights in the canyon.....

During this entire trip, the only footprint I have left are my shoes and the interactions with the locals... No plastics.... Each and every waste was desposed properly or carried back with me to the station... All who are planning this trip please ensure the same... The fort is clean and we travelers must ensure the same... Also travel safe especially when you are a solo traveler.. Observe your surroundings before engaging with any one... weather it's safe or not... Travel smartly.....
