Puneet,

Strict dress code is being followed by Tirupathi Tirumala Devasthanam in Tirumala hill starting from this month. Do take care.

With Warm Regards

They were dilli-dallying about it for quite a while and am not sure whether they have decided to bite the bullet so to speak.

For most people it will be simple and uncomplicated, especially if you are Indian. It applies to both men and women. What they want is for pilgrims (pl note the emphasis on pilgrims, this is a pilgrimage center and you are expected to behave accordingly and not a picnic/tourist spot/holiday) to wear decent, non revealing, non flashy, clothing. Men are encouraged to wear what a grihasta or brahmin would wear - dhoti and bare chested, though a simple kurta or shirt / t-shirt and trouser will do. Women - no tight or slim fitting, western styled, revealing clothing.

Shorts, 3/4ths, bermudas, tights, skirts, shoulder cut blouses are discouraged/not allowed for any sex.

And as would apply to any religious center any where in the world, even if you do not believe in the specific god/religion/beliefs behave in a manner that shows respect to the place.

I have seen many people throw the prasad given at the temple. This is an extremely sought after thing anywhere and is offered in small quantity. Is 2 morsels of anything that is not to someones taste too much to eat. Just my rant.

FWIW I am an atheist.

dress code for entering the Tirupathi temple

I had also heard of the dress code, but when I was there on 11 and 12 Oct, there was no dress code. Men were allowed to wear pants and shirt, shorts, dhoti etc.

There were notices posted that mentioned the dress code but I did not see anyone enforcing the dress code.
