Reports suggest a decision has been made to create the new Telangana state. Hopefully, the state remains peaceful.

UPA unanimously endorses separate Telangana state

This has been going on for ages, hasn't it. I just realized Konda Laxman Bapuji died a few months ago. It was when he resigned from Brahmananda Reddy's government in 1969 that people outside Andhra first heard about this thing.

Andhra Pradesh was the first state based on language. And now, it is being proven that state-hood on the basis of language is not the right way. It is too difficult to draw statehoods based on identities in India. There are just too many to satisfy. Let us see how the experiment proceeds- that is the political experiment that is India, so beautiful and so difficult.

At 66, Mother India to have new baby

The ruling Congress Party has come out in support of creating a new Telangana state from part of Andhra Pradesh.

Times of India story here.

Will this cause problems for travelers to the region?

Nothing wrong, the more the merrier. What India needs are smaller states, and I believe that we should at lest double the number of states by dividing bigger states like UP into four or five smaller states.

The whole idea of states based on language was anyway a very bad idea. The only criteria should be the population, and the administrative aspects to look after the welfare of the people.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

The groundwork is already done - few dozen self-emolated, scores killed, maybe more, strikes, bus burnings, agitations.

It will be relatively calm (....yea famous last words - Look at what predictions did for Egypt )

Not really. Whatever problems were to happen already did in the run up that forced the govt to make the announcement. Everything should be clam now, unless someone realises they can agitate and force the govt to create a Union Territory or another state out of Hyderabad.

Another click in the combination lock to opening Pandora's box. Fracturing India based on political appeasement...where will this end? at small settlements all classed as "states"? Maybe we will need two parliament houses in the future to house the numerous "politicians" crawling out of the woodwork...and of course, tax us to pay for their largesse.
Some of my ramblings!

The current Govt. is all set to be decimated after the next elections. So what they've done is played a gamble. Even if they are not able to gain any political mileage from it during the elections, they've made sure that the life of the next Govt. is in a mess as from now on, as all the groups demanding separate statehood will resort to massive agitations, which shall only grow violent in coming months.

I have a ticket reserved for tomorrow, but have just got the news that the trains might be cancelled or postponed by at least 12-14 hours as one of the agitating groups has called for a 12 hour Rail blockade tomorrow, followed by a 60 hour bandh from 5th of August where I live. If things do not fall in line, they threaten to go all out to get their demands met in near future.

Another aftereffect of the baby being delivered is that migrant workers have been warned by an organisation to leave the place within 36 hours in a remote location of the remote state of Assam. They (the organisation) are going to go for massive agitations, which shall result in a standstill of all ongoing projects in the area.

More post delivery complications to follow in coming days/months.
