@ashima 301
-You can call the numbers I have provided for rates/class and schedule.
-You can travel by the Govt ferries which travel from Hevelock to Port Blair via Neil (I have mentioned) or by coastal cruise.

@arjunrobert
-Thanks
-Regarding first confusion, When I had called up Directorate of shipping services office (address and numbers mentioned in previous post), they informed me that it is the round trip ferry (Govt) which leaves Port Blair at 11.00, reaches Neil, then goes to Havelock. From Havelock the same ferry leaves at 4.00 pm, via Neil it reaches Port Blair.
-Regarding Second confusion...........well it was a usual human error from my side, ie typho mistake, zero was misplaced, now corrected. Thanks.
-Have nice time.
-After your trip, if any of the information provided turns out wrong or any additional information you can gather to help IMers in planning in a better way please share.
-Did you get your Govt guest houses booked through somebody or sent an application/Called up and managed. How difficult or easy was it?.

For those who are planning trip to Baratang

-Till last month permission to travel from Baratang to Lime stone caves was being issued upto 12.30 pm.
-From this month they are issuing permission only up to 09.00 am.
-This means if you start late from Port Blair and reach there after 09.00 am, you may not get chance to visit lime stone caves on the same day.
-This information I got today only and may be useful.
-You may please reconfirm from Andaman tourism office.

Even I am interested to know how the whole process works with regards to booking Govt Accommodation. Yes it would be helpful for us to know how this can be handled? Do they really entertain everyone or is it more of influence? Also do they confirm only 1 month before the travel date or at the time of request based on availability?

Dear Ashima and sshiv,

First of all there is no influence .I sent the application in April and with continuous followup for more than 6 month ..finally received the confirmation mail from them . So you can understand how much painful it was and yes they confirm only 1 month before the travel date .Even there is a booking center in Saltlake,Kolkata for booking only Dolphin resort .I had gone their 2 times(June and October) .First they asked me to come October as 3 months prior they can only start the booking. But when 2nd time I was there they completely denied booking saying "Sir there was maintenance going on in Dolphin house So booking has been stopped " which I found later was a complete lie. I had got confirmed after two days from Andaman itself.

For your info :

Kolkata address :

Andaman and Nicobar House ( White colored building )
College More
Saltlake ,Sector V.
Kolkata -700091
this building is just opposite IEM college.

For Booking Govt / Forest / PWD guest houses

-They don't confirm your bookings till just before 3-4 weeks of your booking dates.
-You need to send them fax or an application hard copy to the contact details (ref to the post regarding Govt guest houses earlier in this thread).
-Some of their Emails don't work.
-They respond to your calls /queries (I had called them up), but cannot help in confirming your booking in advance (>3-4 weeks).
-Even if you send the application earlier you need to remind them again just before four to five weeks.
-It is not that difficult to get the accommodation in Govt guest houses.
-If you know some body in Andamans, they can coordinate.
-If some VIPs arrive at that time, their preference over rides all your bookings, They are known to arrive unannounced!!!.
-Ref to arjunrobert's thread for confirmation of the same, I has raised query about his practical experience.

Hi sshiv,

I again called three authorized travel agents and they confirmed that ferry leaved from PB 11.30 am and it goes to Havelock via Neil. But when it returns it comes straight to PB.

and at 2.00 pm there is a ferry leaves havelock and then go to Neil and finally PB.

Actually my upcoming tour depends on this timing .. So wanna make sure ... if there is any change .

Yes one good point raised by sshiv. As per last conversation with them, in January'14 first week there may not be any confirm booking in Dolphin resort ,Havelock.. as there is a possibility of VIP delegates visiting this resort. Anybody booking that time please be aware ..

Hello arjunrobert,
-Instead of calling travel agents, please call Directorate of shipping services (The Directorate of Shipping Service. Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Phoenix Bay Jetty, Port Blair. Ph: 03192-2405555/245555 / 230480).
-That would solve your confusion and help you to plan.
