Does anyone have any experience staying at the forest rest houses in the Andaman Islands. I'd like to stay at either Chidiya Tapu or Wandoor. I assume the rest houses are very basic and we'd need to bring our own food and bedding? How do I go about booking - do I have to do this from Port Blair and are they likely to be booked up well in advance?

Thanks

Fin.

Hey,

Did u finally manage to find any FRH's?? cos i m planning to go there in April and I guess it would be a nice experience. Typically FRH's dont offer much except for a room and water so i guess you will need to carry along almost everything.

Thanks

We stayed at forest guest house at Baratang. Bed , food all you will get there ( Food was good). For room they charges per Head basis not room wise.
There is no standard procedure to book FGH , once you reach there , you need to approach Forest office , fill form + id proof that's all.

Not sure any FGH exists at Wandoor.

Thanks Virag. Do you mean I should just head to the Forest Rest House I want to stay at and there'll be an officer there (hopefully) who'll take my booking on the spot?
I think I've read about a rest house at Wandoor, as well as Chiriya Tapu and Mt Harriett. I'm planning to travel by bike, so if I reach the rest house and don't get a booking, at least I won't be stranded!

You need to typically call up the concerned authorities (atleast thats what works in N India/Gujarat) who would most often be in Port Blair. If you land up there - chances are you'd be refused, or made to wait till 9-10pm to make sure the original tenant is not arriving.

Why not call up n book?
SMASH!!!!

Hi Viraj,
Can you give me any clue as to where i might find any information about forest guest houses in the Andaman islands.
I have already trawled the A+N administration website in search of forest guest houses, without success.
Your post says approach the forestry department,do they have a website? Any info would be most welcome. Thankyou.M.

Well, if a phone number for bookings exists, and I can find out what it is, then yes, I will call up and book.
