Dear Friends

I am planning for a trip to Andaman in Oct end. Unfortunately we have limited time (6 days) so can not cover all the places. I have read various threads including Param's and Ruchi's Travelogues and have comeup with the following plan:

Day 1 : Reach PB from Chennai. Local Sightseeing (???) post Lunch at PB. Stay overnight at PB.
Day 2 : Start early for Havelock. Visit Local beaches (???). Stay overnight at Havelock.
Day 3 : Visit local Beaches (???). Stay overnight at Havelock.
Day 4 : Start early for Neil Island. Visit Local beaches (???). Stay overnight at Neil.
Day 5 : Start early for PB. Visit Jolly Buoy, Chidiya Tapu. Stay overnight at PB.
Day 6 : Morning Local Sightseeing/Shopping (??) at PB. Catch return Flight to Chennai post Lunch.

1) Does the above plan look feasible?
2) How is the climate in Andaman in Oct end? Does it rain during this time?
3) What Local attractions (marked as ???) in the above plan should I target each day?
4) Preference is to enjoy nature and scenic beauty.
5) Best place for Scuba Diving & Snorkelling and approx charges?
6) Any suggestions for Neat and Clean Family accomodation at these places (PB, Havelock, Neil)?
7) Whether it makes sense to go for Standard Packages offered by Travel Agencies? Any suggestions for reliable and professional local (based out of Andaman) agencies / operators?
8) Do we have any specific Cruise timings for plying between Islands? PB to Havelock, Havelock to Neil, Neil to PB and Neil to Havelock?

I had also planned like you in December '13. As per my knowledge I gathered ,trying to answer your query..
1) Does the above plan look feasible?
Yes it is quite feasible. I dont know at what time you are reaching PB.Still You can cover Cellular Jail and corbyans cave beach at PB .Just remember on Monday most of the Port blair attarctions are closed.

2) How is the climate in Andaman in Oct end? Does it rain during this time?

It will be fine weather normally.
3) What Local attractions (marked as ???) in the above plan should I target each day?
On Day 6 you can visit Samudrika and if time permits coconut palm beach
4) Preference is to enjoy nature and scenic beauty.

You are already covering them Still as I prefer Jolly Buoy and Havelock is at top.

5) Best place for Scuba Diving & Snorkelling and approx charges?

I have the same doubt . But as I heard Scuba diving at Neil is little bit cheaper and Snorkelling is preferreable at Jolly Buoy( as it is free with Jolly Buoy tour :P)
6) Any suggestions for Neat and Clean Family accomodation at these places (PB, Havelock, Neil)?

Lots of hotels are there. It will not be a problem.
7) Whether it makes sense to go for Standard Packages offered by Travel Agencies? Any suggestions for reliable and professional local (based out of Andaman) agencies / operators?

I can say my own plan.We are planning our own .Travel agent's help are taken only for booking.

8) Do we have any specific Cruise timings for plying between Islands? PB to Havelock, Havelock to Neil, Neil to PB and Neil to Havelock?

Search the indiamike .Lots of threads are there.

Thanks Arjun. Sorry for the late reply as I am logging after quite some time. Our Andraman trip is now postponsed to Jan. We will now have few more days (total8-9 days) at our disposable.

Have you finalized tour bookings? Could you share the name and contacts of the hotels where you have decided to stay?

@ ashima301

Check this for ferry timing
I think Govt. accommodation is good according to budget and location. You may contact with Andaman tourism (check their website)
As no. of days are increased, you can include baratang (limestone cave), rangat and mayabunder. Jan is the peak season, so book in advance.
For diving Havelock is best. Check this for diving locations and price. price are standardize to all the diving centres. For list of diving centers check andaman tourism website.

Spend more time in Havelock!

My advice - spend as much time as you can in Havelock. Imagine the quietest part of Goa, or what pretty Thai beaches were 50 years ago before the influx of tourists - and you have the Andamans. I last went in 2011, and although prices probably went up - I think you'll like the shacks like Emerald Gecko or Wild Orchid (nicer, but around 4K per night in 2011). Both places have nice little restaurants.

Neil Island is also quite nice -but very, very quiet. The place felt like a Ghost town - but I was still very happy I went. Only a few places to stay there, and they are very basic but on the beach. But think 2-3 start government places - bed, tiny sheets, and a fan.

Andamans is really about renting a scooter, riding along beaches that put the Maldives to shame for a fraction of the cost, and of course diving/snorkeling/eating/drinking. You may meet people, but I feel if you're going to take 10 days - traveling up and down to places like Mayabunder and such may defeat the purpose.

I went for 10 days - spent 6 in Havelock, 3 in Neil and seriously I came back more relaxed than ever. We got to see Elephants jumping in the water by the pier, did all the watersports, and on Neil Island found a fisherman, who took us 3 hours out into the ocean, then cooked some fish, then had 100 dolphins circle us, and then took us back. All for 1100 INR between 3 people.

Avoid port Blair unless you're really, really keen to see similar tourist stuff you can see in any Indian city, get your beach mode on, and have a good time.

I'm a budget traveller, so i can't take this star kind of resort. Actually i planned my trip kind of exploring not relax kind. Andaman means not only Havelock and neil island whereas both the places has very very beautiful beaches, andaman mean the beautiful mangrove forest of rangat & maybaundar, the famous 2 island (Ross & smith) of diglipur which joined by a sandbar. this can't be found anywhere in india. a journey through mangrove forest and that ends by a limestone cave, i think is a memorable for the whole life. Port blair is nothing much to see (only 2/3 spot) but jolly buoy & chidiya tapu is also enjoyable. There is a place named cinque island which is marvellous according to all the tour operators. One of the tour operators (lokenath travels) told me that the place is heaven of south island, if you visit the place earlier to havelock then your comment will be as only "good" not up to the mark.

So all this mean andaman to me. i planned my tour to visit all the places. one can say my tour will be hectic. but really i don't care about the word hectic. If you told about some rest, then i will say i have a sweet home where i can rest all the day, but when i'm on a tour there is no time for rest, there is only necessity. When i'm on my home i can't leave my bed before 6am but when i'm on tour i can't sleep upto 6am, i leave 4.30-5 am.

i've 2 days plan of havelock. 1 day @ beach 7 and one for scuba diving and elephant beach. I also have a plan to rent a scooter and roam around neil island and i already talked with the resort owner about that.

Actually i love this type of places, all the places of north andaman are this type.

I've only 1 day (actually 2 half day) plan @ port blair. (Cellular jail, Fisheries Museum, Samudrika (Naval Marine Museum) and Anthropological Museum)
