Dear Friends,

I'm planning to visit Agra along with my 5 year old Kid in 1st week of April. Relevant details are as under.

2.4.2015 - Reaching Agra Cantt from New Delhi by Train at around 11.00 AM

4.4.2015 - Leaving Agra Cantt by Train to New Delhi at around 2.00 PM

I will be staying in Agra for 2 nights on 2nd and 3rd April and will be checking out on 4th April. I hope that in 3 days I will be able to explore and cover the famous tourist spots in Agra in a comfortable manner

Request all the travel experts/travel enthusiasts at India Mike to please guide/ provide inputs on the following points to complete this visit in the best possible way.

i) Places to visit in Agra during the three day stay ( 2nd April - 11.30 am to 4th April, 1.00 PM). Would be grateful if a itinerary could be suggested. Since3rd April is a friday and Taj will be closed so the programme has to be drawn accordingly.

ii) Hotel stay (reasonably priced good hotel- around 1200 per night) - a good and safe hotel near Taj would be preferable.

iii) How to move about in Agra say from Hotel to Agra Fort, Hotel to fatehpur Sikri, to sikandra etc.

iv) Are guides required at Agra fort and fatehpur sikri or can it be covered by us. In case guides are required, what will be the cost and whether you can suggest contact nos. of some guides.

v) Taj nature walk has also been mentioned as an attraction. your views on it and how much time it will take to cover.

Would be really grateful for response/inputs on the above points as I am in midst of planning the journey and making travel arrangements etc.

Thanks for the prompt response. I will go through the travellogues and then come up with queries, if any.

I liked the Hotel Sheela in Agra for its proximity to the Taj & its garden. In April I would consider an AC room.
Cheers..

I'm also considering Hotel sheela/ Hotel Taj Plaza/ Hotel Sidhartha/ Hotel Kamal, in that order. I have written to them but yet to get any response from their side.

As regards the local sight seeing at Agra, the following is the tentative plan.

2nd April - 11.30 AM - Visit to Taj

Post lunch - 2.00 PM - 4.00 PM - Agra Fort

Evening - 4.30 PM - Mehtab Bagh, itmad ud daula

3rd April (Friday) - Taj is closed, so visit to other places has been planned.

7.00 am - 8.00 am - Taj nature walk

After breakfast visit Fatehpuri Sikri.

Post lunch planning to cover Sikandra

4th April - Early morning - 6.00 am - 9.00 am Tajmahal

Post breakfast till 12.00 we will be having time which can be utilised for visiting market etc.

12.00 noon we check out and proceed to delhi.

Views/ comments on the above plan. I hope I am not rushing too fast. Any other place which which I might have missed and can be covered.

Agra is amazing when it comes to tourism because it has a lot of places that can take a tourist there more then just one time. What you have highlighted is a factor that can help a visitor a lot.

Side note is that guides are not required at FS or Taj. Never used such there. Would be inclined to use one for the fort if I return. In the right place with the right guide it can certainly be a huge value added. I had great luck in Hampi with an Econ major and in Hyderabad with an elderly chap at Golconda who took my boy off for adventures on the ramparts that he firmly declined to do with baba' parents. At the Konarak the guide was talking complete rubbish about the place so I hired him on condition of complete silence and holding off other nuissances (great job of both)..
